Free Hat and Headband Knitting Pattern
This set consists of a matching headband and hat. You can either wear the headband by itself,
the hat by itself, or layer the two for extra warmth. Both hat and headband are worked in rounds without seams.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Hat circumference at bottom: 17" [43cm] blocked and unstretched.
Height from the edge to the top centre of the crown 8.5" (21 cm)

Materials: Cascade (affiliate link) Yarns 220 worsted weight yarn (100% wool) 220 yards (201 meters) /
100gr, color 8887 Dark Lavender - 1 ball
Needles: circular US #4 (3.5 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
Gauge in Ridged rib: 22 sts x 40 rows= 4” x 4" (10cm x 10cm)
Notions: stitch marker, yarn needle.
Abbreviations:
k - knit
p –purl
k2tog – knit 2 together
st, sts – stitch, stitches
Pattern Notes:
Ridged Rib in rounds: multiple of 2
Round 1: knit
Round 2: purl
Rounds 3 and 4: *k1, p1 - repeat from * to the end of the round
Repeat rounds 1-4
Hat
Cast on 90 sts, join and continue to work in rounds, take care not to twist, place a marker at the beginning of the round, slip the marker while working.
Round 1: knit.
Round 2: purl.
Rounds 3 and 4: *k1, p1 - repeat from * to the end of the round.
Repeat rounds 1-4 eighteen times or until the work measures 7 1/4" (18 1/2cm) high.
Crown Shaping
Round 1 (decrease round): *K2tog, k3 - repeat from * to the end of the round. (= 72 sts)
Round 2: purl
Round 3: knit
Round 4 (decrease round): *k2tog, k2 - repeat from * to the end of the round.( = 54 sts)
Round 5: purl
Round 6: knit
Round 7 (decrease round): *k2tog, k4 - repeat from * to the end of the round. ( = 45 sts)
Round 8: purl
Round 9: knit
Round 10: *k2tog, k3 - repeat from * to the end of the round. ( = 36 sts)
Round 11: purl
Round 12: knit
Round 13 (decrease round): *k2tog, k2 - repeat from * to the end of the round. (= 27 sts)
Round 14: purl
Round 15: knit
Round 16 (decrease round): *k2tog, k1 - repeat from * to the end of the round. (= 18 sts)
Round 17: purl
Round 18: knit
Round 19: purl
Round 20: knit
Round 21 (decrease round): *k2tog - repeat from * to the end of the round. (= 9 sts)
Cut yarn, leaving a 10" (25 cm) tail. Pull through all the stitches and secure.
Headband
One size.
Finished measurements: circumference at bottom: 17" [43cm] blocked and unstretched, hight 6 ½” (16.6 cm).

Rounds 1-2 (CC): knit
Round 3 (MC): *k5, sl1 wyib (with yarn in the back) repeat from * across the round
Rounds 4, 5, 6 (MC): * p5, sl wyib (with yarn in the back) repeat from * across the round
Repeat rounds 1-6.
Headband
With MC yarn cast on 90 sts, join and continue to work in rounds, take care not to twist, place marker at the beginning of the round, slip the marker while working.
Work 3 rounds of 1x1 rib with MC color.
In round 4 start 2-colored pattern:
Rounds 4-5 (CC): Knit.
Round 6 (MC): *K5, sl 1– repeat from * to the end of the round.
Rounds 7-8-9 (MC):*P5, sl 1 - repeat from * to the end of the round.
Repeat rounds 4-9 seven times, or to desired height.
Repeat rounds 4 and 5 one more time .
Work the next 3 rounds in 1x1 rib in main color.
Bind off.
