American Girl Doll Fair Skies Jumper

Free Doll Jumper Knitting Pattern

This jumper dress for your American Girl Doll is the perfect piece for that wholesome country look. It features some ribbing at the waist that hugs the hips and adds shape. You can easily change the width and spacing of the contrast color bands in the skirt to achieve exactly the look you want. Feel free to play around!

Materials: Grace by Patons sport weight yarn (100% Mercerized Cotton), 125m (136 yds)/50 gr - 1 ball of blue and some amount of white; (shop for this yarn here!)

2 small white buttons 5-6 mm,

Needles: US #1 (2.25 mm) circular needles OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge for stockinette stitch: 26 st = 4" (10 cm)

Pattern Notes

Garter Stitch in rows:

knit all rows

Garter stitch in rounds:

1st round and all odd rounds - knit

2nd round and all even rounds - purl

Stockinette Stitch in rows:

1st row and all odd rows - knit

2nd row and all even rows - purl

Stockinette Stitch in rounds:

knit all rounds

1x1 rib in rounds:

all rounds k1, p1

Abbreviations:

  • RS - right side
  • WS - wrong side
  • pu&k – pick up and knit
  • m1 - make 1 increase - I used the increase described by Elizabeth Zimmerman: make a backward loop over the right-hand needle and in the next row/round purl/knit as a regular stitch.

Selvedge stitches:

knit the first stitch and purl the last

Jumper

The jumper is worked top down, starting from the front bib, the skirt is worked in the round, the back straps are added with pick-up stitches.

Bib

Cast on 18 stitches. Work 5 rows in garter stitch (all rows knit).

Row 6 and all even rows (WS): k 4, purl to the last 4 sts, k 3, p 1.

Row 7 (RS) and rows 11, 15, 19 and 23: knit to the last st, p 1.

Row 9 and rows 13, 17, and 21: k 4, m 1, knit to the last 4 sts, m 1, k 3, p 1.

Row 25: knit 26, cast on 36 sts, join to form a circle and continue to work in-the-round.

Skirt

The jumper is worked in blue, to make white stripes work the following rounds in white (optional):

10-11; 17-19; 29-30; 37-39.

Rounds 1-8: knit 26, work in 1x1 rib (k1, p1) the cast-on 36 stitches. = 62 sts

Round 9: *k1, m1 - repeat across the round. = 124 sts

Rounds 10-43: knit

Work the next 6 rounds in garter stitch: rounds 44, 46, 48 purl, rounds 45, 47, 49 knit. Bind off. Cut yarn, weave in the ends.

Back straps

Count 12 sts from the right edge of the bib, pu&k the next 12 sts. Work 12 rows in garter stitch,

in row 13, divide for 2 straps: work 6 sts from your ball of yarn, then work the next 6 sts

from a new ball of yarn. Work 26 rows (after division) on both straps, in row 27 make buttonholes: k2, k2tog, yo, k2. Work 3 more rows and bind off. Cut yarn.

Finishing

Weave in the ends. Sew buttons to the front bib.
