Free Doll Hat Knitting Pattern

This cute knitted outfit consists of a sweater, vest, skirt, tights, hat and shoes to change a doll into one of Santa's elves. It's a great decoration for around the house or on your Christmas tree and, of course, a perfect toy.
This outfit will fit a 14" doll from the Hearts for Hearts Girls series

Skills Required/Techniques Used:

-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off

-Decreasing: knit 2 together (k2tog)

-Working in the round on double pointed needles or "magic loop" method on circular needles

Materials: Knit Picks (affiliate link) Palette fingering weight yarn, 231 yards (211 meters) / 50gr, colors: 1982 Grass, 4932 Serrano and 9437 white one ball each for the whole outfit.

Notions: 1 big green cotton pom-pom, stitch marker, yarn needle, sewing needle and matching thread to attach pom-pom.

Needles: 5 dpn US #2 (2.75mm) 5" long or circular US #2 (2.75mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 20 sts x 30 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm)

Abbreviations:

dpn – double pointed needles

K – knit

P – purl

St, sts – stitch, stitches

co – cast on

sm - slip marker

Patterns:

1x1 Rib in rounds
All rounds: *k1, p1 repeat from * all the way around.

Stockinette in rounds
All rounds knit

Directions

The hat is worked in rounds without seams on 5 dpn.

With green yarn cast on 52 sts, join in circle and continue to work in rounds, mark the beginning of the round, slip marker while working.
Distribute sts on 4 dpn, 13 sts on each needle.
Work 20 rounds in 1x1 rib: *k1, p1 - repeat from * around.
Change to red yarn and work stockinette (all rounds knit) for the next 20 rounds.
Round 41 (decrease round): *k2tog, k 11 repeat from * 4 times. = 48 sts
Round 42 and all even rounds: knit.
Round 43 (decrease round): *k2tog, k 10 repeat from * 4 times. = 44 sts
Round 45 (decrease round): *k2tog, k 9 repeat from * 4 times. = 40 sts
Round 47 (decrease round): *k2tog, k 8 repeat from * 4 times. = 36 sts
Round 49 (decrease round): *k2tog, k 7 repeat from * 4 times. = 32 sts
Round 51 (decrease round): *k2tog, k 6 repeat from * 4 times. = 28 sts
Round 53 (decrease round): *k2tog, k 5 repeat from * 4 times. = 24 sts
Round 55 (decrease round): *k2tog, k 4 repeat from * 4 times. = 20 sts
Round 57 (decrease round): *k2tog, k 3 repeat from * 4 times. = 16 sts
Round 59 (decrease round): *k2tog, k 2 repeat from * 4 times. = 12 sts
Round 61 (decrease round): *k2tog, k 1 repeat from * 4 times. = 8 sts
Round 63 (decrease round): *k2tog repeat from * 4 times. = 4 sts
Cut yarn, leaving a 4" (10 cm) tail. Pull through remaining 4 sts and secure.

Finishing: Weave in all yarn ends. Sew a pom-pom to the end.
