Materials: Gaia by Filati (affiliate link) Bertagna fingering weight yarn (100% merino), 25 gr/0.88oz. 100 meters/109 yards – 1 ball

Needles: circular and double pointed needles (dpn) US #2 (2.75mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge for garter stitch: 26 sts x 52 rows = 4" x 4" (10cm x 10cm)

Notions:
yarn needle, 3 small buttons, sewing needle and thread of matching color, small embellishments of your choice (optional).

Abbreviations:
k - knit
p - purl
yo - yarn over
k2tog – knit 2 sts together
RS - right side
WS - wrong side
kfr&b - knit front and back


Pattern Notes:

Garter st in rows: all rows knit

The selvedge/edge stitches are worked as follows: knit the first stitch and purl the last one.

Button bands and button holes: are worked together with the body of the cardigan.

Cast on 42 sts.

Row 1 (RS) : k41, p1.

Repeat row 1 three more times

Row 5 (RS, increase and button hole row): k4, *kfr&b, k2 - repeat from * 11 times, kfr&b, k2tog, yo, k1,p1 =54 sts

Rows 6-8: k53, p1

Row 9 (RS, increase row): k4, *kfr&b, k2 – repeat from * 15 times kfr&b, k3, p1 = 70 sts

Rows 10-12: k69, p1

Divide for sleeves and bodice:

Row 15 (RS): k15, bind off the next 16 sts, knit 24, bind off the next 16 sts, k14, p1

Rows 16 (WS): k15, co5, k24, co5, k14, p1. =64 sts

Rows 17-20: knit till last st, p1.

Row 21 (RS, bb hole row): knit to last 4 sts, k2tog, yo, k1, p1

Work 15 more rows all RS rows like row 17: knit to last st, p1.

Bind off. Cut yarn.


Finishing:

Weave in all yarn ends. Sew small buttons on the button band opposite the button holes.
