Materials: Red Heart (affiliate link) Mystic aran weight yarn (70% Acrylic, 30% Alpaca), 154 yds (141 m)/85 gr – 0.5 ball.

Needles: double pointed needles (dpn) US #7 (4.25mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 20 sts x 24 rows = 4" (10 cm) in stockinette stitch.

Abbreviations:
k - knit
p - purl
St, sts - stitch, stitches
k2tog - knit 2 sts together
ssk(slip, slip, knit): slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog – 1 st decreased.

Pattern Notes:

Stockinette in rounds: all rounds knit

1x1 rib in rounds: all rounds *k1, p1 - repeat from * around

Hat

Cast on 40 sts, distribute the sts among 4 needles - 10 sts per needle; close into round, place a marker to mark the beginning of the round. Slip the marker while working.

Work 10 rounds in 1x1 rib: *k1, p1 - repeat from * around.

Work the next 12 rounds in stockinette - all rounds knit.

Round 23: *k2tog, k6, ssk - repeat from * 4 times

Round 24: *k2tog, k4, ssk - repeat from * 4 times

Round 25: *k2tog, k2, ssk - repeat from * 4 times

Round 26: *k2tog, ssk - repeat from * 4 times


Finishing

Cut yarn, leaving a 5" (12 cm) tail. Pull through all the remaining sts and secure. Weave in yarn ends.
