Free Scarf Knitting Pattern

This scarf features worsted weight yarn and ribbed construction, giving it a thick, luxurious feel. It will keep you warm in any weather. This is a great beginner pattern!

Skills Required/Techniques Used:
-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off

Size: 8" x 65" (20 cm x 165 cm)

Materials: worsted weight 100% alpaca 5.7 oz 194 yds from Autumn Hill Llama and Fiber - 2 balls about 400 yds

Needles: US # 8 (5.0 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 20 sts x 20 rows = 4" x 4" (10cm x 10cm)

Notions: yarn needle.

Abbreviations:
k - knit
p - purl
RS - right side
WS - wrong side
st, sts - stitch, stitches

Pattern Notes:

Seeded Rib
Multiple of 4 sts plus 3
Row 1 (RS): K3, * p1, k3 - repeat from *
Row 2: K1, *p1, k3 - repeat from *, end p1, k1
Repeat 2 rows.

Selvedge stitches: the first and the last sts in a row are selvedge sts, slip the first stitch and purl the last one.


Short Overview of the Pattern:

This is a simple pattern suitable for the beginners. The textured result is achieved by switching the wrong and right side rows of the pattern every 20 rows.

Scarf

Cast on 41 sts: 36 +3 +2 edge sts

Row 1 (RS): Sl1, k3, * p1, k3 - repeat from * to last st, p1

Row 2 (WS): Sl1, k1, *p1, k3 - repeat from *, to last 3 sts, end p1, k1, p1

Repeat rows 1-2 nine (9) more times.

Row 21 (RS): Sl1, k1, *p1, k3 - repeat from *, to last 3 sts, end p1, k1, p1

Row 22 (WS): Sl1, k3, * p1, k3 - repeat from * to last st, p1

Repeat row 21-22 nine (9) more times

Repeat rows 1-40 to desired length


Finishing:

Weave in all yarn ends.
