Free Wine Bottle Sweaters and Hats Knitting Pattern

These wine bottle sweaters are perfect for adding a final Christmas touch to your dinner table. This page describes two styles of sweaters. The choice of colors is of course up to you. I went with green and red for Christmas.

The sweaters fit on the 3" (7.6 cm) diameter bottle, circumference 9.5" (24 cm)

Materials: Red Heart (affiliate link) Super Saver 100% acrylic yarn worsted weight, color Red, 333 m (364 yds)/198 g - 0.5 skein.  (A)
Red Heart (affiliate link) Super Saver 100% acrylic yarn worsted weight, color Green, 333 m (364 yds)/198 g - 0.5 skein.  (B)
1" red pom-pom
Glitter pom-poms ("Glitter Poms, 65 Pack)

Needles: 5 dpn needles US 9 (5.5 mm)

Gauge for stockinette st: 16 sts = 4" (10 cm)

Red-Green Wine Bottle Sweater

Pattern

Multiple of 5
Round 1 with A: *k2, p3 repeat from * across the round,
Round 2 with B: *sl2 wyib (with yarn in back), p3; rep from * across the round.
Repeat rounds 1-2.

Directions

With yarn A cast on 35 sts.
Work *k2, p3* repeat 5 times distributing sts on 4 needles, join and continue to work in rounds.
Place a marker at the beginning of the round.
Start working the pattern. Work 42 rounds.
Work next round with yarn A: *k2, p2tog, p1 - rep from * across the round
Work next 13 rounds: *k2, p2 - rep from * across the round
Work next round: *k2, p2tog - rep from * across the round
Work next 17 rounds: *k2, p1 - rep from * across the round.
Bind off.

Red Wine Bottle Hat

The hat is worked in stockinette st in rounds.

With red yarn (A), cast on 18 sts. Start knitting, distributing 6 sts on each needle, join and continue to work in rounds, place a marker in the beginning of the round.
Knit 5 rounds in red, change to green and knit 5 more rounds.
Round 11 - k2 tog across the round.
Cut yarn, leaving a 10" (25 cm) tail. Pull through all the sts and secure.
Sew on a red pom-pom.

Green Wine Bottle Sweater

Cast on 40 sts, join and continue to work in rounds, 10 sts on each needle. Place a marker at the beginning of the round.
Work 1:1 ribbing (k1, p1) for 6 rounds.
Rounds 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12: *k4, p4 repeat from * 5 times
Rounds 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18: *p4, k4 repeat from* 5 times
Repeat rounds 7-18 three more times
Work next round: *k2tog, p2tog repeat from * across the round.
Work next round: *k2, p2 repeat from * across the round.
Repeat this round 12 times, or to desired length. Bind off.
Sew pom-poms onto the "purl" squares.

Green Wine Bottle Hat

Cast on 20 sts, join and continue to work in rounds.
Work 1:1 ribbing (k1, p1 across the round) distributing sts on needles, 5 sts on 4 needles, place
a marker at the beginning of the round.
Work 14 rounds, or to desired length. Bind off.
Sew the upper opening closed.
Sew glitter pom-poms on each corner.
