Free Doll Sweater Knitting Pattern
Materials: Knit Picks Palette fingering weight 100% wool yarn 210 m (231 yds)/ 50 g color Semolina - 1 ball. (shop for this yarn here!)
Four 5-6 mm buttons
Needles: US #1 (2.25) straight needles OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
pu&k - pick up and knit
as est. - as established, work as the previous rows
Gauge for reverse stockinette stitch: 32 sts x 60 rows = 4" (10 cm)
Right side rows purl, wrong side rows knit
Row 1: k1, p1
Row 2: knit over k and purl over p
Repeat rows 1-2.
All rows knit.
All WS (even) rows purl.
Rows 1 and 3: k4
Row 5: slip 2 sts on a cable needle and hold before the work, k the next 2 sts,
return the sts from the cable needle to the left needle and knit them one by one.
Selvedge stitches: knit the first st and purl the last st in the row
The sweater is worked back-and-forth on straight needles from cuff to cuff as one piece.
When divided for front and back, it's worked from 2 balls of yarn, back and front simultaneously. Odd rows are RS rows, even rows are WS rows. All WS rows are worked as established: k sts are knit, purled sts are purled,
Co 36 sts and work 6 rows in 1x1 rib.
While working the 6th row (RS), increase for 10 sts distributing them evenly along the row.
Row 7: sl 1, p 7, k 4 (cable), p 4, k 4 (cable), p 6, k 4 (cable), p 4, k4 (cable), p 8 = 46 sts
Work 34 rows as established, co 18 sts at the end of the last row.
Row 41: knit 18 cast-on sts, work the 46 sts of the sleeve as established, co 18 sts.
Row 42: knit 18 cast-on sts, work the 46 sts of the sleeve as established, k 18 sts
The next 4 rows work as established: 18 sts in garter st, 8 sts reverse stockinette,
4 sts cable, 4 sts reverse stockinette, 4 sts cable, 6 sts reverse stockinette,
4 sts cable, 4 sts reverse stockinette, 4 sts cable, 8 sts reverse stockinette, 18 sts garter st.
Row 47: work as established 39 sts, bind off 4 sts, work as established the next 39 sts. Turn,
work back to the bind off sts as est., start to work the front part from the second ball of yarn.
Work as established 50 rows.
The next (RS) row: work as established 39 sts, co 4 sts, go on as established from the first ball
of yarn, cut off the second ball.
Work as est. 5 rows. The next row, bind off 18 sts, work as established the remaining sts.
In the next row, bind off 18 sts, work as est. the remaining sts.
Work 33 rows of the sleeve as est. In the next row decrease 10 sts evenly distributed along the

Block the piece before proceeding.
The neckline bands of front and back are worked separately.
Front: pu&k 42 sts along the front neckline. Work in 1 x 1 rib 6 rows, bind off. Cut yarn, leave a
tail for finishing.
Back: pu&k 42 sts along the back neckline. Work in 1 x 1 rib 3 rows.
Row 4 (WS) making the button holes: work as est 5 sts, yo, k2tog, work as est 3 sts, yo, k3tog,
work as est. 19 sts, k2 tog, yo, work as est. 3 sts, k2tog, yo, work 5 sts. Work 2 more rows as
est. Bind off.
Sew the sides of the neckline bands in place. Sew 4 buttons on the front neckline band under
the button holes.
Sew the sleeve and side seams.
