My sister and I have done a lot of clothes for American girl dolls. Their waist is about 11 inches around, this pattern has 51 stitches for the waist. 51 sts. divided by 11 in. = about 4.5, so use whatever size needles would give you 4.5 stitches per inch. (I think for my sister and I that would be about size 6.)

Yes, you should place stitches on stitch holders. I suggest to slip the 1st stitch and to purl the last stitch.

You have to knit all stitches in row 51

You have to achieve the gauge specified in the pattern with the needles of the size, which allows you to do it.

I DONīT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MEAN BY CASTING 97STS (INCLUDING EDGE STITCHES) DOES THIS MEAN THE EDGE STITCHES ARE INCLUDED, IF NOT HOW MANY STITCHES DO WE CONSIDER FOR EDGE STS.
THANK YOU
