2 (2.75 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
Gauge:16 st x 22 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) for stocking stitch
Patterns:
Stocking Stitch/Stockinette
1 row and all odd rows - knit sts
2 row and all even rows - purl sts
Skirt
Cast on 97 sts (including edge stitches).
Row 1: knit
Row 2 and all even rows: purl
Row 3: k1, *yo, k4, k3tog, k4, yo, k1* repeat from * to * 8 times.
Row 5: k1, * k1, yo, k3, k3tog, k3, yo, k2*, repeat from * to * 8 times.
Row 7: k1, * k2, yo, k2, k3tog, k2, yo, k3*, repeat from * to * 8 times.
Row 9: k1, *k3, yo, k1, k3tog, k1, yo, k4* repeat from * to * 8 times.
Row 11: k1, *k4, yo, k3tog, yo, k5* repeat from * to * 8 times.

In rows 15,17 and 19 we make decreases between the "diamonds".

Row 19: k7, *k3tog, k5*, repeat from * to * 7 times, k2. There are 51 sts remaining.
Rows 20-30: stockinette.
Row 31-eyelet row: *k2tog, yo*, repeat.
Rows 32-34: stockinette stitch.
Row 35: divide the stitches as follows: 1 edge st, 12 sts for the left back, 25 sts for the front, 12 sts for the right back, 1 edge sts. From this row continue to knit front and backs separately.
Left Back
Rows 35-48: 1 edge st, k9, p2, 1 edge st.
Row 49: cast off 6 sts, k4, p1.
Row 50, k1, p4.
Rows 51-54: k4, p1. Cast off.
Right Back
Knit as left back.

Row 35: 1 edge st, p2, k19, p2, 1 edge st.

Finishing:
Join shoulder seams. Join back seam for 4" (10 cm) from the hem of the skirt.
Pick up 24 sts along the back opening and knit 2 rows of stocking stitch for the left button band. Cast off.
Pick up 40 sts along the neck line and knit picot edge as follows:
Rows 1-2: stockinette
Row 3: yo, k2tog (knit 2 together)
Rows 4-6: stockinette. Cast off.
Pick up 36 sts along the armhole and knit picot edge as follows:
Rows 1-2: stockinette
Row 3: yo, k2tog
Rows 4-6: stockinette. Cast off.
Sew 3 sew-on snaps to the back opening.

i made this dress it was very cool. my daughter loved it. it fits her small ty cat. the size of the needles are deffently wrong. other wise was awsome.

everything was ok but the size of the needles... also found that the stitches knitted together were not all in a straight line..

Fairly new at knitting. When it says divide sts in row 35, do it mean to use markers or put these stiches on stitch holders. Also, assuming that when it says edge st, I am suppose to knit or purl thesests. Can you clearify for me? Thanks.
