My sister and I have done a lot of clothes for American girl dolls. Their waist is about 11 inches around, this pattern has 51 stitches for the waist. 51 sts. divided by 11 in. = about 4.5, so use whatever size needles would give you 4.5 stitches per inch. (I think for my sister and I that would be about size 6.)

Yes, you should place stitches on stitch holders. I suggest to slip the 1st stitch and to purl the last stitch.

You have to knit all stitches in row 51

You have to achieve the gauge specified in the pattern with the needles of the size, which allows you to do it.

I DONĀ“T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MEAN BY CASTING 97STS (INCLUDING EDGE STITCHES) DOES THIS MEAN THE EDGE STITCHES ARE INCLUDED, IF NOT HOW MANY STITCHES DO WE CONSIDER FOR EDGE STS.
THANK YOU

size of needles too small for gauge.
Row when doing eyelet has 1 stitch left at end of row, pattern does not say how to knit that last stitch. No explanation of how to knit edge stitch. Overall not good instructions for a beginner. I am not, so was able to figure it out. Dress overall is very pretty.

I am an experienced knitter and I have to say there is no way the tension/needle size is right for this pattern. I have started with 2.75mm and it is far too small for AMG doll.

I think I'm missing something I don't
understand row 51. What do you knit before casting of 9 sts.

Fairly new at knitting. When it says divide sts in row 35, do it mean to use markers or put these stiches on stitch holders. Also, assuming that when it says edge st, I am suppose to knit or purl thesests. Can you clearify for me? Thanks.
