No where does it tell you to chain 40 before the 37.

I don't see anywhere stating to chain 40 then 36. You may have miss-read the directions?

Okay it doesn't say chain 40 then 36, it does say: Chain 37. Then Row one says: ch 3, *1 dc, ch 1, skip 1,1dc,repeat from * 11 more times, 1 dc. Why would one first chain 36, then another 3? Why not just chain 39???

I am also have been crocheting quite awhile and am having trouble with this pattern. I am not familiar with "ch 1 over ch-1-space". Is it the same as ch 1 into the ch 1 space, or is it ch 1 then skip the ch-1 that forms the ch-1 space and dc into the next stitch or does it mean something else? I searched on the internet and could find no instructions for this terminology. Please help as it is a lovely dress that I would like to complete

I really need some help with this dress pattern. Why does it say "chain 40 then chain 36"? And I really don't understand the directions for the top part of the bodice. Sorry for being a pain but is there something im missing? I have been crocheting for a very long time and this pattern has me confused. Thanks for your help. I really love the dress-

Row 1: 1dc in 5th ch (counts as 1st dc), ch 1, sk 1, 1 dc, *1 dc, ch 1, skip 1, 1 dc,* 11 more times.

Dress: Round Yoke
Chain 38
Row 1: 1 dc in 5th ch (counts as 1st dc, ch 1, sk 1, 1 dc,) *1 dc, ch 1, skip 1, 1 dc, repeat from * 11 more times, 1 dc.
I believe this is correct. I hope. :0)
