Free Doll Hat Knitting Pattern

The beret is worked from the bottom up and is seamless.

Materials: Knit Picks (affiliate link) Palette fingering weight 100% wool yarn 231 yds (210 m)/ 50 g, color Tomato - 1/2 ball.

Needles: US #1 (2.25 mm) circular needle and/or double pointed needles OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Gauge: 28 st x 40 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch.

-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off
-Increasing: make 1 (m1)
-Decreasing: knit 2 together (k2tog)
-Working in the round on circular and/or double pointed needles

Abbreviations:
dpn – double pointed needles
K – knit
P – purl
St, sts – stitch, stitches
m 1 - make 1 increase - I used the increase described by Elizabeth Zimmerman: make a backward loop over the right-hand needle and in the next row/round purl/knit it as a regular stitch.
k2tog - knit 2 together

1x1 Rib in rounds: multiple of 2
*k1, p1 - repeat from * across

Stockinette Stitch in rounds: all rounds knit.


Beret

The beret is worked from bottom up, in rounds, without seams.

Cast on 72 sts, join into round.

Work 12 rounds in 1x1 rib: *k1, p1 - repeat from * across.

Round 13 (increase round): *k2, m1 - repeat across. ( = 108 sts)

Rounds 14-16: knit

Round 17 (increase round): * k2, m1 - repeat from * across. ( = 162 sts)

Rounds 18-22: knit

Round 23 (decrease round): *k16, k2tog -repeat from * 9 times. ( = 153 sts)

Round 25 (decrease round): *k15, k2tog - repeat from * 9 times. (= 144 sts)

Round 27 (decrease round): *k14, k2tog- repeat from * 9 times. (= 135 sts)

Round 29: *k13, k2tog - repeat from * 9 times. (=126 sts)

Round 31: *k12, k2 tog- repeat from * 9 times. (=117 sts)

Round 33: * k11, k2tog - repeat from * 9 times. (=108 sts)

Round 35: * k10, k2tog - repeat from * 9 times. (=99 sts)
