Santa's Elf Outfit for 14 inch Dolls: Skirt

Free Doll Skirt Knitting Pattern

This cute knitted outfit consists of a sweater, vest, skirt, tights, hat and shoes to change a doll into one of Santa's elves. It's a great decoration for around the house or on your Christmas tree and, of course, a perfect toy.
This outfit will fit a 14" doll from the Hearts for Hearts Girls series

Skills Required/Techniques Used:

-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off

-Increasing: make 1(m1)

-Working in the round on double pointed needles, or circular needles using "magic loop" technique.

Materials: Knit Picks Palette fingering weight yarn, 231 yards (211 meters) / 50gr, colors: 1982 Grass, 4932 Serrano and 9437 white one ball each for the whole outfit.

Notions: yarn needle, stitch marker

Needles: 5 dpn US #2 (2.75mm) 5" long and circular US #2 (2.75mm) OR size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 20 sts x 30 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm)

Abbreviations:

dpn – double pointed needles

K – knit

P – purl

St, sts – stitch, stitches

co – cast on

m 1 - make 1 increase - I used the increase described by Elizabeth Zimmerman: make a backward loop over the right-hand needle and in the next row/round purl/knit it as a regular stitch.

sm - slip marker

Pattern Notes:

1 x 1 Rib in rounds
All rounds: *k1, p1 repeat from * all the way around.

Stockinette in rounds
All rounds knit


Garter stitch in rounds
Round 1 - knit
Round 2 - purl
Repeat rounds 1-2

The skirt:

The skirt is worked from top to bottom in rounds without seams.

On dpn or circular needles, cast on 32 sts, join and continue to work in rounds. Place a marker at the beginning of the round, slip marker while working. If you work on dpn, distribute the sts onto 4 dpn, 8 sts on each needle.
Work rounds 1-5 in 1 x1 rib : *k1, p1 - repeat from * around.
Round 6 (increase round): *k 4, m 1 repeat from * 8 times across the round. = 40 sts
Rounds 7-15: knit around.
Round 16 (increase round): *m 1, k 1 repeat from * across the round. = 80 sts
Rounds 17-30: knit around.
Round 31: purl.
Round 32: knit.
Round 33: purl,
Round 34: knit.
Bind off.

Finishing: Weave in all yarn ends, block the skirt.
