Free Scarf Knitting Pattern

Finished Size: 13" x 90" (33 cm x 228 cm)

Skills Required/Techniques Used:

--Knit & purl, cast on & bind off

--Increasing: yarn over (yo)

--Decreasing: knit 2 together (k2tog)


Materials: Red Heart (affiliate link) Boutique Midnight aran weight yarn, color 1944 Harvest Moon 140 m (153 yds) / 70g (2.5 oz.) - 3 balls

Needles: #10 US (6.0 mm)

Gauge:
12 sts x 16 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm)

Abbreviations:

K – knit

P– purl

k2tog - knit 2 together

yo - yarn over

st, sts - stitch, stitches


Pattern Notes:

Chevron Lace Pattern: multiple of 6 st
Row 1 (RS): *yo, k2, k2tog, k2*, repeat to the end of the row
Row 2 (WS): purl
Row 3: *k2, k2tog, k2, yo*, repeat to the end of the row
Row 4: purl
Repeat rows 1-4

Selvedge/Edge stitches: slip the first st and purl the last one.

Directions:

Cast on 38 sts (36 for the pattern + 2 edge sts).

Row 1: Sl 1, (yo, k 2, k2tog, k 2) repeat 6 times, p1.
Row 2: Sl 1, p 37.
Row 3: Sl 1, (k 2, k2tog, k 2, yo) repeat 6 times, p1.
Row 4: Sl 1, p 37
Repeat rows 1-4 until desired length. Bind off.

Finishing
Make fringe.

You say that there are 2selvedge sts. So are you talking the the first stitch is a slip stitch and the last "extra" stitch should be a slip stitch too?

Not being a smarty pant here. Six times six is 36...You slip the first stitch, do your repeat 6 times then knit the last stitch. I hope this helps. I'm going to start this patten.

Two extra sts are selvedge sts. The first is slipped, the last is knit.

To make a yarn over, you simply bring the knitting yarn (the “over” strand) over the needle.
