Free Cardigan Knitting Pattern

Size: 8/10 (38/40)

Materials: Noro Kureyon sock yarn 420 m / 100g Color S188 - 1 skein (color B).
100 % wool fingering weight black yarn 300g (color A).

Needles: 2 (2.75 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge for stocking stitch: 23 st x 30 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Patterns:

Two-Color Waves Pattern
Multiple of 11
Rows 1 (WS): Color A (black), knit
Rows 2-5: knit (garter stitch).
Rows 6, 8 and 10: Color B (Noro yarn), *k2tog, k2, knit into the front and the back of the next 2 sts, k3, ssk*, repeat from * to *
Rows 7, 9 and 11: purl.
Row 12: Color A (black), repeat row 6.
Repeat rows 1-12.

Reverse stocking stitch:
Row 1. purl
Row 2. knit
Repeat rows 1 and 2.

Garter Stitch
all rows - knit sts

Rib 1x1: 1k, 1p

Directions
Back and front of the cardigan are knitted as one piece up to armholes, then front and back knitted separately.
Cast on 211 sts (including edge stitches, edge stitches are not part of the pattern).
Knit Two-Color Waves pattern for 87 rows.
Row 88: edge st, 47 sts of 2-color waves, cast off 12 sts, 91 sts of 2-color waves, cast off 12 sts, 47 sts of 2-color waves, edge st.
Continue back and left and right front separately.

Finishing:
Join shoulder seams.
To knit a neckband pick up 80 sts along the neckline and knit 12 rows of garter stitch. Cast off.
For Button bands pick up 74 sts along the centers of the front parts and knit 22 rows of garter stitch. Cast off.
On the right band make 5 button holes as follows: cast off 2 sts for each buttonhole in the 11th row and cast on 2 sts in the 12th row.
Join side seams and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.

Sew on 5 buttons.
