Free Sweater Knitting Pattern from Noro Yarn

Size: 10/12 (40/42)

Materials:
Elann.com Peruvian Highland Wool yarn, color black, 50 g / 100 m (109 yards) - 10 skeins
Noro Kureyon yarn, color 90, 50 g / 100 m (109 yards) - 2 skeins
Needles: 6 (4.0 mm) and 5 (3.75 mm) and circular 5 (3.75 mm) 60 cm (24") OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 17 st x 24 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm) for black yarn.

Patterns:

Rib: 1k, 1p

Stocking Stitch
1 row and all odd rows - knit sts
2 row and all even rows - purl sts

Back
With black yarn cast on 64 sts (including edge stitches) on 5 (3.75 mm) needles.
Knit rib for 10 rows. Add 20 sts evenly in the 10th row.
Change needles to 6 (4.0 mm) needles and knit stocking stitch. Knit for 80 rows.
Row 81: to shape an armhole cast off 8 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 82: cast off 8 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 83: close 1 sts on both sides.
Rows 102-128: stocking stitch.
Row 129: to shape a neckline cast off 16 sts in the middle of the back and continiue knitting the left and right parts of the back separately.
Rows 131-136: decrease for 1 st in each odd row to shape a neckline.
Rows 137-138: stocking stitch. Cast off

Front
The front of the sweater is knitted diagonally (see drawing below).
With black yarn cast on 5 sts (including edge stitches) on 6 (4.0 mm) needles. The first stitch should be slipped to the right needle and the last stitch purled. Knit stocking stitch.
Rows 3-50: increase 1 sts on both sides 24 times in every odd row. There will be 53 sts (including edge sts). Transfer all the stitches to another needle.
Knit another triangle.
Row 51: transfer stitches of both triangles to one needle and knit stocking stitch. Knit the last stitch of the first triangle and the first stitch of the second triangle together. There will be 105 sts.
Row 52: all purl.
Rows 53-72: knit stocking stitch. In each odd row increase for 1 sts at the beginning and the end of the row and knit the 3 middle sts together (52nd, 53rd and 54th).
Row 73: to shape an armhole do not increase for 1 sts at the beginning and the end of the row. Knit the 3 middle sts together.
Rows 75-82: to shape an armhole in each odd row decrease for 1 st at the beginning and the end of the row. Continue to knit the 3 middle sts together.
Row 83: change to Noro yarn and circular 5 (3.75 mm) needles.
Knit 44 rows (rows 83-132).
Row 133: to shape shoulders do not increase for 1 sts at the beginning and the end of the row. Knit the 3 middle sts together.
Rows 135-150: to shape shoulders in each odd row decrease for 1 st at the beginning and the end of the row. Continue to knit the 3 middle sts together.
Transfer all remaining sts to another needle.

Sleeve
With black yarn cast on 32 sts (including edge stitches) on 5 (3.75 mm) needles
Knit rib for 10 rows. Add 20 sts evenly in the 10th row.
Change needles to 6 (4.0 mm) needles and knit stocking stitch.
Rows 11-12: black yarn
Rows 13-32: Noro yarn
Rows 33-126:
Add 1 sts on both sides in every 4th row 20 times in 80 rows. There will be 92 sts (including edge stitches).
Knit 30 rows of stocking stitch (122 rows od stocking st total). Cast off.
Cast off.

Finishing:
Join 1 shoulder seam.
Transfer stitches from the front to a circular needles and pick up sts along the back neckline. Decrease each 3rd stitch of the front to adjust the size of the collar. There should be 66 sts. Knit rib for 10 rows for the collar. Cast off.
Join another shoulder seam, side seams and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.

Pick up stitches along the bottom of the sweater, join to form a circle and work 10 rounds of rib. Cast off.
