Free Doll Sweater Knitting Pattern

Skills Required/Techniques Used:

-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off

-Increasing: make 1 (m1)

-Decreasing: knit 2 together (k2tog), slip-slip-knit (ssk)

-Working cables

-Picking up stitches

Materials: Bernat Satin 100% acrylic yarn worsted weight, color - Sable, 149 m (163 yds)/100 g - 1 skein.

Notions: yarn needle, cable needle, 4 small sew-on snaps.

Needles: US#4 (3.50 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Gauge for stockinette:16 st x 22 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm)

Abbreviations:

RS - right side

WS - wrong side

k -knit

p - purl

k2tog - knit 2 stitches together

p2tog - purl 2 stitches together

st, sts - stitch, stitches

co - cast on

2/2LC - four-stitch cable

1/1LC - two-stitch cable

m1 - make 1 increase - I used the increase described by Elizabeth Zimmerman: make a backward loop over the right-hand needle and in the next row/round purl/knit as a regular stitch.

Pattern Notes:

1x1 Rib (multiple of 2 +1):

Row 1: (RS): *k1, p1 - repeat from * to last st, k1.

Row 2: (WS): *p1, k1 - repeat from * to last st, p1.

Repeat rows 1-2.

Reverse Stockinette:
Row 1 (RS and all RS rows): purl
Row 2 (WS and all WS rows) : knit

Repeat rows 1-2.

Cable on 2 sts:

Rows 1 and 3 (RS): knit.
Rows 2 and 4 (WS): purl.
Row 5 (RS): slip the first stitch purlwise on a cable needle and hold behind the work, knit the second stitch; return the first stitch to the left needle and knit it (this is 1/1LC).
Row 6 (WS): purl.
Repeat rows 1-6.

Cable on 4 sts:
Rows 1 and 3 (RS): knit.
Rows 2 and 4 (WS): purl.
Row 5 (RS): slip 2 sts on a cable needle and hold before the work, knit the next 2 sts, return the sts from the cable needle to the left needle and knit them one by one (this is 2/2LC).
Row 6 (WS): purl.
Repeat rows 1-6.

Selvege (or edge) stitches are worked as follows: knit the first stitch in a row, purl the last one.

Sweater:

Sweater is worked in parts, which are then sewed together, bottom up.

Front
Cast on 34 sts.
Rows 1 -4 : *k1, p1 - repeat from * to the end of the row.
Rows 5 and 7 (RS): k1, p9, k4, p2, k2, p2, k4, p10.

Row 6, 8 and 10 (WS): k10, p4, k2, p2, k2, p4, k9, p1.

Row 9 (RS): k1, p9, 2/2LC, p2, 1/1LC, p2, 2/2LC, p10.

Repeat rows 5-10 four more times.

Row 35 (RS): k1, p 9, k4, bind off the next 6 sts, k4, p 10. (= 28 sts, 14 sts on each side)

Continiue working the left and right parts of the front separately from 2 balls of yarn.

Row 36 (WS): k10, p1, p2tog, p1 from the first ball of yarn, continue the other side from the second ball of yarn: k1, p2tog, p1, k9, p1. = 13 sts in each part.

Row 37 (RS): k1, p9, k2tog, p1 from one ball of yarn; k1, ssk, p9, k1 from another ball of yarn. = 12 sts in each part
Work 3 more rows (rows 38-40) as established, 12 sts in each part. Bind off.

Back
Cast on 34 sts .
Rows 1-4 : *k1, p1 - repeat from * to the end of the row.
Rows 5 and 7 (RS): k1, p9, k4, p6, k4, p10.

Rows 6, 8 and 10 (WS): k10, p4, k6, p4, k9, p1

Row 9 (RS): k10, 2/2LC, p6, 2/2LC, p10.

Repeat rows 5-10 one more time.
In row 17 (RS) divide the stitches into 2 parts and continue to work each part separately from 2 balls of yarn: k1, p9, k4, p3; attach the second ball of yarn and continue to work from it: k1, p2, k4, p10. = 17 sts in each part

Rows 18,20 and 22 (WS): from one ball of yarn : k10, p4, k2, p1; from another ball of yarn: k3, p4, k9, p1.

Row 19 (RS): from one ball of yarn: k1, p9, k4, p3; from another ball of yarn: k1, p2, k4, p10.

Row 21 (RS): from one ball of yarn: k1, p9, 2/2LC, p3; from another ball of yarn: k1, p2, 2/2LC, p10.
work as established 22 rows from 2 balls of yarn.

Repeat rows 17-22 two more time.

Row 35 (RS) like row 19.

Row 36 (WS) : from one ball of yarn: k10, p4, k2, p1; from another ball of yarn: bind off 5 sts, p2, k9, p1. There are 17 sts on the first part, 12 sts on the second part.
Row 37 (RS): from one ball of yarn: k1, p9, k1, p1 (=12 sts); from another ball of yarn: bind off 5 sts, k2, p10. (=12 sts)

Work 3 more rows (38-40) on 12 sts in each part as established. Bind off.

Sleeve
Cast on 20 sts.
Rows 1-4 : *k1, p1 - repeat from * to the end of the row.

Row 5 (RS): k1, p8, k2, p9.

Row 6 (WS): k9, p2, k8, p1

Row 7 (RS): k1, m1, p8, k2, p8, m1, p1. (=22 sts)

Row 8 (WS): k10, p2, k9, p1

Row 9 (RS): k1, m1, p9, 1/1LC, p9, m1, p1. (= 24 sts)

Row 10 (WS): k11, p2, k10, p1

Row 11(RS): k1, m1, p10, k2, p10, m1, p1. (= 26 sts)

Row 12 (WS): k12, p2, k11, p1

Row 13 (RS): k1, m1, p11, k2, p11, m1, p1. (= 28 sts)

Row 14 (WS): k13, p2, k12, p1

Row 15 (RS): k1, m1, p12, 1/1LC, p12, m1, p1. (= 30 sts)

Row 16 (WS): k14, p2, k13, p1

Row 17(RS): k1, m1, p13, k2, p13, m1, p1. (= 32 sts)

Rows 18, 20 and 22 (WS): k15, p2, k14, p1

Row 19 (RS): k1, p14, k2, p15,

Row 21 (RS): k1, p14, 1/1LC, p15,

Bind off.

Collar:

Join shoulder seams.
Pick up 42 sts along the neckline and work 10 rows of 1 x 1 rib: *k1, p1 - repeat to the end of the row. Bind off.

Finishing:

Join side seams and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves. Weave in yarn ends.
Sew 4 sew-on snaps to the back opening.
