This hat was designed to match the Faux-Fur Trimmed Coat for American Girl Doll.
Though I called it a "hat", it's something of a mix of a hat, a hood and a bonnet. I think "hat" is still the most fitting.
As with the coat, I added a Fun Fur trim using crochet. However, if you do not crochet, I also describe a method to do this by knitting in the Finishing section.

-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off

Shaping the Back of the Hat:
The back of the hat is worked in RSS. Please note that all decreases are made on the wrong side of the work.
Row 1 (RS) and all right side rows: sl 1, purl.
Row 2 (WS, decrease row): sl 1, *k2tog, k1, repeat from * 14 times, p1. (=30 sts)
Row 4 (WS, decrease row): sl 1, *k2tog, k2 - repeat from * seven times, p1. (=23 sts)
Row 6 (WS, decrease row): sl 1, *k2tog, k1, repeat from * seven times, p1. (=16 sts)
Row 8 (WS, decrease row): sl1, (k2tog) seven times, p1. (=9 sts)
Cut yarn, leaving a 15" long tail. Thread the end of the yarn through remaining stitches and tie.
Then with the same yarn end sew the back seam.
Tie off, cut yarn, weave in the end.
There are different ways of making ties. The easiest one is to crochet: attach yarn in one of the corners of the front edge and chain a string as long as you need.
Repeat on another corner.
You can also make 2 pieces of I-cord, 4"-5" long each, and sew them to the corners of the hat.
Or you can sew ribbons for a tie.
Attach Fun Fur yarn at one of the corners of the front edge of the hat (over a tie) and work 3 rows of single crochet (sc). Attach Fun Fur yarn at the first row of the back of the hat and work 3 rows of single crochet.
If you don't crochet, you can achieve a similar look by picking up the sts along the front edge of the hat and working 4 rows of garter st.
Use circular needles. Then pu&k stitches along the first row of the hat’s back. Work 2-3 rows in garter stitch, bind off. Cut yarn.
