IntermediateFree Cardigan Crochet Pattern
This cardigan works up from the top down in one piece. You crochet back and forth with no seams to join at the end. The design uses a light stitch pattern that lets air flow through the fabric. It features two colors that create a simple contrast between the upper body and the lower section. The sleeves and body come together as you work downward. The open front gives it an easy style for warm days. This pattern suits makers who want a comfortable layer for summer.

Raglan Increases
To shape the raglan line you have to increase stitches. When shaping the raglan, the increases are worked at the marked ch1-space. The raglan increases are worked in every odd row (dc rows) and then they are worked in every other odd row (every other dc row).
The raglan increase is worked as follows:
Work till the marked ch1-sp and work (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in the marked ch1-space. Work the next row (sc and chain row) as est.
When the raglan increases are worked in every other odd row, in the rows without increase work as follows:
Work till the marked ch1-sp and make 1 dc in the marked ch1-space. Next row (sc and chain row) work ch1 over the 1 dc from the previous row.

V-Neck Increases and Button Band
To shape the V-neck you have to increase stitches. The increase (adding 1 pattern repeat, consisting of 3 sc + ch1) is spread over 8 rows (4 odd rows, or dc rows). When shaping the V-neck the increase is worked between the button band (consisting of 6 dc) and the main pattern.
DC row before the increase (RS): ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 1 dc into next 5 sts, ch1, 3 dc into next ch3-sp, continue as est. till the button band, ch1, 1 dc in each of the last 6 sc.

Divide for sleeves and bodice

Work as established for 9 rows in the MC, work 18 more rows in the CC or to desired length. End with dc row. Tie off.
Sleeves
Although the sleeves are worked in the round, the odd and even rounds are going in the opposite direction, to maintain the appearance of the pattern matching the one of the cardigan body. This is achieved by turning your work after each round for 180 degrees.
Sleeves start from the even (sc) row.
Set up row (sc row): Secure the yarn at the ch1-sp of the raglan line and work as established to the underarm chain. Work over underarm chain *1 sc, ch 3, repeat from * 3 (4, 4, 5, 7, 7) times, 1 sc. Sl st to the beginning of the round. Turn the work for 180 degrees.
Round 1 (dc round) : continue to work the pattern as established.
Round 2 (sc round): work as est.
Repeat rounds 1-2 eight (8) more times in MC, repeat rounds 1-2 fourteen (14) more times in CC or to desired length, turning the work every round to work in the opposite direction, as if you work in rows. Finish with DC round. Tie off.
Neck Band
With RS facing, starting at the end of the right front button band, attach yarn and work ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), then work 1 dc in each of the next 5 dc, sl st to the neckline edge. Turn, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of the next 5 dc. Repeat these 2 rows until you reach the other end of the left front button band. Connect with slip stitches. Tie off.
Finishing
Weave in ends. Block.
Have fun!
