Hook: # I (5.5 mm)
Gauge: 1 pattern repeat = 2” (5 cm), 6 rows = 2” (5cm)
Abbreviations:
st, sts - stitch, stitches
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
Shell - (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in the same ch or ch-space.
ch, chs - chain, chains
sp - space
LC – light color
DC – dark color
Short Overview of the Pattern:
The blanket is worked in a chevron pattern, in light-color (LC) and dark color (DC) cotton yarn.
Blanket
With LC yarn, Ch 121 (multiple of 8 plus 1).
Row 1: ch 1, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 1, skip 3 chs, Shell in next ch, ch 1, skip 3 chs, 1 sc in next ch, repeat from * to the end of the row. Turn.
Row 2: ch 3, 2 dc in sc, *ch 1, 1 sc in ch-1-sp of the Shell, ch 1, Shell in next sc, ch 1, from * repeat to the end of the last sc, end with 3 dc in the last sc. Turn.
With DC yarn:
Row 3: ch 1, 1 sc in the 1st dc, *ch 1, Shell in ch-1-sp of the Shell of one row down (in this case row 1), ch 1, 1 sc in ch-1-sp of the Shell of row 2, from * repeat to the end of the row, work last 1 sc in the top of ch3.
Row 4: ch 3, 2 dc in sc, *ch 1, 1 sc in ch-1-sp of the Shell of the previous row, ch 1, Shell in ch-1-sp of the Shell of one row down (in this case row 2), ch 1, repeat from * to the last sc, end with 3 dc in the last sc.
Repeat rows 3-4, working alternatively in LC and DC yarns (2 rows each color). Work randomly for 4 or 6 rows in LC yarn, to make the blanket more interesting. Finish with LC yarn. Don’t cut the yarn.
Finishing
In LC yarn, work 2 rows of dc around the blanket sides. Work 3 dc in each of corner stitches. Tie off.
