Shawl consists of 63 hexagon motifs. The motifs are connected while working the last round of the motif. Alternatively, it is possible to sew all the motifs afterwards. Finally, 2 rounds of dc finish the shawl.
Hexagon Motif (worked in the rounds)
With CC yarn, ch8, join with sl st to form a ring.
Round 1: b2dc-cl into ring, ch3, (3dc-cl in ring, ch3) 5 times, join with sl st to the top of b2dc-cl.
Round 2: sl st to next ch3-sp, b2dc-cl into same ch3-sp, ch3, 3dc-cl into same ch3-sp, ch3, [(3dc-cl, ch3) twice in the next ch3-sp] 5 times, join with sl st to the top of b2dc-cl.
Round 3: sl st to next ch3-sp, b2dc-cl into same ch3-sp, ch3, 3dc-cl into same ch3-sp, ch3, [(3dc-cl, ch3) twice in the next ch3-sp, 3dc-cl in the next ch3-sp, ch3] 5 times, join with sl st to the top of b2dc-cl.
Round 4: sl st to next ch3-sp, b2dc-cl into same ch3-sp, ch3, 3dc-cl into same ch3-sp, ch3, [(3dc-cl, ch3) twice in the next ch3-sp, (3dc-cl in the next ch3-sp, ch3) twice] 5 times, join with sl st to the top of b2dc-cl.
With MC yarn
Round 5: sl st to next ch3-sp, b2dc-cl into same ch3-sp, ch3, 3dc-cl into same ch3-sp, ch3, [(3dc-cl, ch3) twice in the next ch3-sp, (3dc-cl in the next ch3-sp, ch3) three times] 5 times, join with sl st to the top of b2dc-cl.
Round 6: sl st to next ch3-sp, b2dc-cl into same ch3-sp, ch3, 3dc-cl into same ch3-sp, ch3, [(3dc-cl, ch3) twice in the next ch3-sp, (3dc-cl in the next ch3-sp, ch3) four times] 5 times, join with sl st to the top of b2dc-cl. Tie off.
Alternative round 6 for “join-as-you-go method” of joining motifs:
Round 6: sl st to next ch3-sp, b2dc-cl into same ch3-sp, ch1, sl st to corresponding ch3-sp, ch1, 3dc-cl into same ch3-sp, ch1, sl st to corresponding ch3-sp, ch1, [(3dc-cl, ch1, sl st to corresponding ch3-sp, ch1,) twice in the next ch3-sp, (3dc-cl in the next ch3-sp, ch1, sl st to corresponding ch3-sp, ch1) four times] 5 times, join with sl st to the top of b2dc-cl. Tie off.
Work 63 motifs, joining them as-you-go. Alternatively, you can join them by sewing.
Finishing
Work 2 rounds of dc around the whole stole. In the hexagon vertices work 3 dc in the ch3-sp in the 1st round; in the 2nd round, work 3 dc in the 2nd dc of the previous round. In the angles between 2 hexagons, work 3dc-cl.
Weave in all loose yarn ends.
