Semi-Circular Shawl with Pineapple Border

Difficulty level: *** Intermediate

Free Shawl Crochet Pattern

This light and airy shawl, crocheted with cotton yarn, is perfect for summer nights. Made from warmer fibers, it's great for the spring and fall as well. The construction of the shawl makes it particularly good for crocheting with “cake” style yarn that features long color changes.

Measurements: length 33” (83 cm), width 70” (175 cm)

Materials: Estelle Yarns Rainbow Confetti fingering weight yarn (50% Acrylic, 50% Cotton) 875 yards(800 meters)/200 gr, color Q66117 Treetop – 1.5 “cake”.

Hook: D (3.25 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 22 dc x 16 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm) in double crochet.
The gauge is not very important, however note that if you crochet with a heavier yarn and a larger hook, you will get a larger shawl

Abbreviations (USA):

Dc - double crochet
Sc – single crochet
Ch – chain
st - stitch
sts - stitches
sl st - slip stitch
4dc-cl – 4 dc cluster: 1) Yarn over (yo), insert the hook into the next ch-1-sp, yarn over, draw the yarn through the stitch, yarn over, draw the yarn through 2 loops on the hook; Repeat three times; 2) Yarn over and draw the yarn through all 5 loops on the hook.

Shawl

The shawl is semi-circular, it is worked from the top down. If crocheted from the “cake” yarn with long color changes, I recommend to start from the dark color of the 1st cake and from the light color of the 2nd cake to prevent having narrow color stripes at the bottom of the shawl, where the rows are the longest.

Ch 6, join with sl st to the 1st ch to make a circle.
