Stockinette in rows:
Row 1 (RS): knit
Row 2: purl
Repeat 2 rows.
Stockinette in rounds:
All rounds knit.
The front openings of the cardigan are finished with chain selvedge. There is 1 selvedge st added at the beginning and the end of the row.
At the beginning of each row slip 1
At the end of each row purl 1
The cardigan is worked from top to bottom, back and forth without seams.
Cast on 33 (34, 34, 37) sts and knit one row (wrong side). Divide sts as follows and place markers on raglan lines:
1st (selvedge) + 1 st (front) + 1 st (raglan, place a marker) + 5 (5, 5, 6) sts (sleeve) + 1 st (raglan, place a marker) + 15 (16, 16, 17) sts (back) + 1 st (raglan, place a marker) + 5 (5, 5, 6) sts (sleeve) + 1 st (raglan, place a marker) + 1 st (front) + 1 st (selvedge)
Work stockinette stitch.
Work 32 (36, 40, 44) rows, increasing by 8 sts (double increase at the raglan sts) in each odd row as follows: M1, k1 (raglan st), M1 at the raglan st.
At the same time increase by 1 st at the beginning and the end of the row (2 sts per row) in every 6th row 5 (7, 7, 7) times and in every 4th row 2 (0, 0, 1) times.
Stitch count before division for sleeves: 161 (178, 194, 213).
Divide for sleeves
Next row: work the left front sts, transfer the left sleeve sts to a length of yarn, cast on 5 sts with single cast on for the underarm, work back sts, transfer right sleeve sts to a length of yarn, cast on 5 sts with single cast on and work right front stitches. Include raglan sts with the fronts and back. Place markers at the center of the underarm.
Continue to work bodice back and forth in stockinette st for 12 (16, 20, 24) more rows or to desired length. Don’t bind off the stitches, but leave them on a needle. They will be bind off, while working the applied I-cord.
Sleeves are worked in rounds in stockinette st.
Transfer sleeve sts from the yarn to the needles and pick up 5 sts over the 5 underarm sts. Place a marker at the beginning of the round.
Work 60 (74, 82, 88) rounds or to desired length. In the last round work *k2tog, k 3 to the end of the round.
Work Rib 1x1 for 10 rounds. Bind off.
Work applied I-cord along the center fronts, neck line and bottom of the cardigan.
See video instructions for knitting applied I-cord.
