Hat

The hat is worked in rounds, from the top down, without seams. See the color sequence in the pattern notes above.

Rnd 1: ch 2 (counts as dc), 11 dc into the ring, sl st to ch-2 = 12 dc
Rnd 2: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the same st, *2 dc in the next dc, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch-2 = 24 dc.
Rnd 3: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), *1 dc in the next dc, 2 dc in the next dc, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch-2 = 36 dc.
Rnd 4: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc, * 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, 2 dc in the next dc, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch-2 = 48 dc.
Rnd 5: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), * 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc, 2 dc in the next dc, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch-2 = 60 dc.
Rnd 6: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), dc to the end of the round, no increases, sl st to ch-2.
Rnd 7: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), * 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc, 2 dc in the next dc, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch-2 = 72 dc.
Rnd 8: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), dc to the end of the round, no increases, sl st to ch-2.
Rnd 9: ch 1 (counts as 1 sc), 1 sc, skip next dc, Sdc under dc of rnd 8, * 1 sc in each of the next 5 dc, skip next dc, Sdc under dc of rnd 8, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 1.
Rnd 10: ch 1 (counts as 1 sc), 1 sc in the next sc, 1 sc in the Sdc, skip next sc, Sdc in the middle of the dc of round 8, *1 sc in each of the next 4 sc, 1 sc in the Sdc, skip next sc, Sdc in the middle of the dc of round 8, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 1.
Rnd 11: ch 1 (counts as 1 sc), 1 sc in the next 2 sc, 2 sc in the Sdc, skip next sc, Sdc under sc 2 rounds below, *1 sc in each of the next 4 sc, 2 sc in the Sdc, skip next sc, Sdc under sc 2 rounds below, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 1. = 84 sts

Rnds 13-35: repeat round 12, but work one more sc at the beginning of each round before working Sdc. This moves all dc stitches over one st on each round, placing them on a diagonal.

Increase in rounds 17, 27, 29, 31. Round 34 work as increase round 11, working 2 sc in the Sdc of the prev round. Stitch count after each increase round:
Round 17 = 96 sts
Round 27 = 108 sts
Round 29 = 120 sts
Round 31 = 132 sts
Round 34 = 144 sts
