Bottom
Chain 20.
Row 1 and all other rows: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 19 dc, turn.
Work as established until the bottom is 17” (43 cm) long. Tie off.
Finishing
On a blocking mat or a cutting mat measure a 34” x 14” (86 cm x 36 cm) rectangle. Position the leaves inside the rectangle, slightly overlapping them. Baste the leaves. Using matching yarn colors sew the leaves together along the overlapping edges. Fold the rectangle widthwise in half, overlapping the edge leaves and sew them together to close the side seam and get a tube.
Sew the bottom to the lower edge of the bag, folding the uneven edges of the bag inside.
I decided to felt the bag slightly. The bag didn’t change size after felting as is usual with crochet. I set my washing machine set to hot and let it run for about 20 min of the "normal" cycle with a small amount of Woolite.
For the lining you will need about ½ yard of cotton fabric. Cut a rectangle measuring 34 ½” x 16 ½”. Fold it widthwise, face inwards and align the edges. On your sewing machine, stitch the side and bottom edges together. Make box corners at the bottom of the lining. Fold the upper edge ½” – 1” out and press with a hot iron.
Insert the lining into the crochet bag and manually stitch the upper edge of the lining to the bag approximately 1” from the edge. Fold the upper uneven edge of the bag ½” inside over the lining and hand stitch it
Attach the leather handles following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Enjoy!
