Starry Night Shawl with Crocheted Bead Edging

Free Shawl Knitting Pattern

Size: 72" (180 cm) long and 33" (82 cm) wide at the widest part

Materials:
Yarn: Spangle by Premier (affiliate link) Yarns  DK weight yarn (75% Nylon, 25% Metallic), 164 yds/150m in
1.76 oz/50g, color 11-208 Sparkling water - 5 balls
400 beads 8 mm with 3-4 mm opening.

Needles: US size 10 (6 mm) 32" (81cm) circular needles

Hook: Size G/2 (2.75 mm)

Gauge is not important

Pattern Notes

Special abbreviations:
Kfr&b - knit first through the front of the loop, do not slide the st to the right needle,
knit by through the back of the loop  and slide both sts to the right needle.

ch - chain
sc - single crochet
Bsc - beaded single crochet - Insert hook in indicated st, slide one bead up close to the hook,
yo after the bead, draw yarn through the stitch, yo, draw yarn through both loops on the hook.

Pattern:

CO 6 sts and knit one foundation row.
R 1: Sl 1, K 1, *yo, p2tog repeat from * across to the last 2 sts, k 1, p 1
R 2: Sl 1, kfr&b, k across to last 2 sts, kfr&b, p1 = 8 sts
R 3: Sl 1, knit across to the last st, p1
R 4: Sl 1, kfr&b, *yo, p2tog repeat from * to the last 2 sts, kfr&b, p 1 = 10 sts
R 5: Sl 1, knit across to the last st, p1
R 6: Sl 1, kfr&b, k across to the last 2 sts, kfr&b, p 1. = 12 sts

Repeat rows 1-6.

Shawl Directions

CO 6 sts and follow the pattern. Repeat the pattern 32 times or to desired length.
Knit the last 5 rows. Bind off.

Edging:

String the beads onto the yarn. Leave a 6" long tail.
Row 1 (foundation row): starting with the left end of the shawl, sc along the sides of the shawl,

turn
Row 2: *Ch 9, Bsc 1 in the 4th st of the foundation row, repeat from * across, turn
Row 3: *Ch 9, Bsc 1 in the 5th st on the chain of the previous row, repeat from * across

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 one more time, or to desired width of the edging.
Tie off.
