Free Shawl Crochet Pattern

Though this shawl looks complicated, it's actually very easy to crochet. Worked seamless from the top down and from the center outwards, it can be completed in a few evenings.

Size: width - 84" (214 cm), depth - 40" (102 cm) without fringe

Materials: TLC (affiliate link) Essentials Multi by Red Heart (affiliate link) aran weight yarn (100% acrylic), 245 yds/224m 4.5 oz/127 g) - 4 balls, color Shaded Denim
Hook: K (6.5 mm)

Stitches:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
trc = treble crochet

Directions

Shawl is worked top-down and from the center out.

Ch 5, connect into a ring with a slip stitch.

Row 1: ch2 (counts as the first dc), 2 dc in the ring, ch1, 3 dc in the ring, ch1, 3 dc in the ring, ch1, 3 dc in the ring, 1 trc into the second ch of the beginning ch2

Row 2: ch3, 3 dc into ch from previous round, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch; ch 3, 3 dc into the next ch of previous round, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch, ch3; 3 dc into the next ch of previous round, ch 1, 3 dc into the same ch, 1 trc into ch 2 of previous row.

Row 3: ch 3, 3 dc into the ch, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch, ch2, 3 dc into the ch3, ch2; 3 dc into the ch, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch, ch2, 3 dc in the ch3, ch2; 3 dc into the ch, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch, 1 trc into ch3 of previous row.

Row 4: ch3, 3 dc into the ch, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch, ch2, 1 dc in the first ch-2 below, *ch 1, skip 1st below, 1 dc, repeat from * 2 more times, ch2, 3 dc into the ch, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch, ch2; 1 dc in the first ch-2 below, *ch 1, skip 1st below, 1 dc, repeat from * 2 more times, ch2, 3 dc into the ch, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch, 1 trc into ch3 of previous row.

Row 5: ch3, 3 dc into the ch, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch, ch2, make a dc into every st below (11 total or until 3 dc group is reached), ch2, 3 dc into the ch, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch, ch2, make a dc in every st below (11 total or until 3 dc group is reached), ch2, 3 dc into the ch, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch, 1 trc into ch3 of previous row.

Row 6: ch3, 3 dc into the ch, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch, ch2, 1 dc in the first ch below, *ch 1, skip 1 st below, 1 dc in the next st repeat from * 6 more times or till the 3dc group is reached, ch2, 3 dc into the ch, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch, ch2; 1 dc in the first ch below, *ch 1, skip 1 st below, 1 dc in the next st repeat from * 6 more times or till the 3dc group is reached, ch2, 3 dc into the ch, ch1, 3 dc into the same ch, 1 trc.

Work to desired size repeating rows 5-6. In every repeat of row 5, increase number of dc by 8 (so row 7 will have 19 dc, row 9 will have 27 dc, etc). In every repeat of row 6, increase number of *ch 1, skip 1 st below, 1 dc in the next st* by 4 (so row 8 will have 10 repeats, row 10 will have 14 repeats, etc)

Finishing

Make fringe.
