Free Baby Booties Knitting Pattern

Materials: Sport weight wool yarn - 1 skein.


Needles: 1 (2.25 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Gauge for stocking stitch: 22 st x 30 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Patterns:

Stocking Stitch
1 row and all odd rows - knit sts
2 row and all even rows - purl sts

Reverse stocking stitch:
Row 1. purl
Row 2. knit
Repeat row 1 and 2.

Directions:

Cast on 32 sts.
Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11: purl
Row 2 edge st, yo, 14 k, yo, 2 k, yo, 14 k, yo, edge st (in the next rows edge stitches are not mentioned).
Rows 4: 1 k, yo, 14 k, yo, 4 k, yo, 14 k, yo, 1 k.
Rows 6: 2 k, yo, 14 k, yo, 6 k, yo, 14 k, yo, 2 k.
Rows 8: 3 k, yo, 14 k, yo, 8 k, yo, 14 k, yo, 3 k.
Rows 10: 4 k, yo, 14 k, yo, 10 k, yo, 14 k, yo, 4 k.
Rows 12: 5 k, yo, 14 k, yo, 12 k, yo, 14 k, yo, 5 k.
Row 13: knit
Row 14: purl.
Row 15: purl.
Row 16: knit.
Row 17: knit.
Row 18: purl.
Row 19: purl.
Row 20: 30 k, k2tog, turn without knitting to the end of the row.
Row 21: 11p, p2tog, turn.
Row 22: 11 k, k2tog, turn
Rows 23-31: Repeat rows 21-22.
Row 32: 25k.
Row 33: 38 p.
Row 34: purl.
Row 35: knit.
Row 36: *k2tog, yo*, repeat from * to *.
Row 37: purl.
Row 38: purl.
Row 39: knit.
Row 40: knit.
Row 41: purl.
Row 42: knit.
Row 43: purl.
Row 44: knit.
Row 45: knit.
Cast off.

Finishing:
Join the back seam. Thread laces into the eyelet rows.

What is an edge stitch? Which one did you use?

What is an edge stitch? With the Baby Booties, there are 32 sts to start Row 2, but following you directions - 2 sts remain at the end of the row. What is missing to use up the last 2 sts?
