Free Hat Crochet Pattern

The crown of this hat features a bold acorn lace motif. It definitely makes a statement, and is also great for keeping off the sun. The hat is crocheted from the top down in one piece.

Size: head circumference 21-22” (53-56 cm)

Materials: Aunt Lydia's 100% Mercerized Cotton Size 3, 150yd/138m, color - Natural - 3 balls.
Millinery wire 16 gauge - 40" (100 cm).

Hat

The hat is worked top down, in the round, without seams.

Chain 8, join to the beginning of the chain to form a circle. Continue to work in-the-round.
Round 1: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 23 dc into ch 8, sl st to ch 3.

Round 2: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2dccl into each on next 2 dc, *ch 3, 3dccl into the last st of the previous cluster and into each of next 2 dc, repeat from * 10 more times, ch 3, sl st to ch 3.

Round 3: ch 8 (counts as 1 tr and ch 5), *3trcl into ch 3, ch 5, repeat from * 10 more times, ch 5, 2trcl into last ch-3, sl st to 3rd ch of ch-8.

Brim

While crocheting around the wire, stop when you get to the last 2 inches (5 cm), adjust the wire.
Then the secure the ends of the wire with the pliers, twisting and flattening the ends, and end
the round, working sc over the connection. Tie off.
