Materials: Aunt Lydia's 100% Mercerized Cotton fingering weight thread, Size 3, 150yd/138m, color - Blue - 0.5 ball.
3 buttons

Hook: C (2.75mm)

Gauge: 2 shells = 1 3/4" (4.5 cm)

Abbreviations:

ch = chain
st(s) = stitch(es)
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
V-stitch (V-st) - (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) into one stitch.

V-st in V-st - V-st into ch-1-space of the V-stitch of the prev. row
Shell - (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) into one stitch

Shell in shell - shell into the ch-1-space of the shell from the previous row.
Triple Shell - (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) into 1 stitch.
Fan Shell - 5 dc into1 stitch.

Top

The top is worked top-down in rows with the opening at the back.

Chain 39.
Row 1: ch 2 (counts as 1 sc), 1 sc in each of the 38 chains. = 39 sc
Row 2: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *V-st in the next st, skip 1 sc, repeat from * to the end of the row (19 times), 1 dc in the last sc.
Row 3: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 V-st into each of the 19 V-stitches, 1 dc in the last dc.
Row 4: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *1 shell (see above) into each of the 19 V-sts, 1 dc in the last dc.
Row 5: ch 3, *1 shell into each of the 19 shells, 1 dc in the last dc.
Row 6: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 shell into each of the next 3 shells [this is the right back]; (fan shell in next shell , 1 sc into the space between shells) 3 times, 1 fan shell in the next shell [this is the right sleeve]; 1 shell into eacj of the next 5 shells [this is the front]; (fan shell in next shell , 1 sc into the space between shells) 3 times,1 fan shell in the next shell [this is the left sleeve]; 1 shell into each of the next 3 shells [this is the left back], 1 dc in the last dc.

Row 9: like row 8
Row 10: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 triple shell in each shell and triple shell across (you'll have 11 tripple shells in all), 1 dc in the last.
Cut yarn. If you want a longer top, repeat row 8 to desired length, finish with row 10.



Finishing

Sew on 3 buttons to the left back.
