American Girl Doll Christmas Carol Outfit (Skirt, Cape, Hat and Legwarmers)

Free Doll Outfit Knitting Pattern

Skills Required/Techniques Used:

-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off

-Increasing: knit front and back (kfr&b)

-Working in the round on double pointed needles

- Working 2-color patterns

-Picking up stitches

Materials: Brown Sheep (affiliate link) Nature Spun sport weight yarn 184 yards (168 m) / 40 gr, color 112 Elf Green - 1 ball

Brown Sheep (affiliate link) Nature Spun sport weight yarn 184 yards (168 m) / 40 gr, color 109 Spring Green - 1 ball

Notions: yarn needle, stitch marker, a piece of 1/4" wide elastic for the belt, sewing needle and thread to sew elastic

Needles: US 2 (2.75mm) circular needles and US 2 (2.75mm) dpn OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge for stockinette stitch: 26 st = 4" (10 cm)

Abbreviations:

dpn – double pointed needles

K – knit

P – purl

St – stitch

Sts - stitches

pu&k - pick up and knit

as est. - as established, work as the pattern demands, here knit the RS rows and purl the WS rows.

co – cast on

RS – right side

WS – wrong side

kfr&b - knit front and back

sm - slip marker

Pattern Notes:

Stockinette Stitch in rows:
Row 1 (RS): knit
Row 2 (WS): purl

Repeat row 1-2.

Stockinette Stitch in rounds: knit all rounds

1x1 Rib in rounds: *k1, p1 repeat from * across the round

Color pattern:
Round 1: *k1 in color A, k1 in color B - repeat from * across the round
Round 2: knit in color B
Round 3: like round 1.

Selvedge/edge stitches: the first st slip, the last st purl.

Skirt

The skirt is worked from top down. The belt is worked back and forth. The skirt is worked in rounds without seams on circular needles.

Belt

With light green yarn co 57 sts. , leave a 6" long tail.
Work in stockinette 3 rows: row 1 (RS) knit, row 2 (WS) purl, row 3 (RS) knit.
Row 4 (WS): knit.
Rows 5 and 7 (RS): knit.
Rows 6 and 8 (WS): purl.
Fold the belt lengthwise along the purl (4th) row, * insert left needle into the first st on the cast-on edge, knit it together with the next st on needle. Repeat from * for every st to the end of the row. This will form a "tube" for the belt.
Join and continue to work in rounds. Place marker in the begining of the round, slip marker while working.
Round 1 (increase round): kfr&b in each st of the round = 114 sts
Rounds 2 - 31: knit
Rounds 32-34: work the color pattern.
Rounds 35 and 36: knit in light green.
Round 37: purl
Rounds 38 - 40 knit. Bind off.

Finishing

Insert elastic in the belt tube and sew its ends together. Sew the opening of the tube closed with the tail yarn.
Fold the hem along the purl row. Slipstitch the hem to the WS of the skirt. Weave in yarn ends. Block.



Cape with Drawstring Neckline

The cape is worked from the top down, first in rows, then in rounds, without seams, on circular needles.

With dark green yarn, cast on 70 sts.
Work in stockinette 4 rows: row 1 (RS) knit, row 2 purl, row 3 knit, row 4 purl.
Row 5 (RS): purl.
Rows 6 - 11: even rows purl, odd rows knit.
Fold the piece lengthwise along the purl row, wrong side inwards. *Insert left needle into the first st on the cast-on edge, knit it together with the next st on the needle.
Repeat from * for every st to the end of the row. This will form a "tube" for the drawstring.
Join and continue to work in rounds. Place marker at the beginning of the round, slip marker while working.
Round 1: knit.
Round 2 (increase round): k3, *kfr&b, k2 repeat from * to the last st, k1 = 92 sts
Rounds 3-5: work the color pattern.
Rounds 6 and 7: knit in dark green
Round 8 (increase round): *k1, kfr&b, repeat from * to the lend of the round = 138 sts
Rounds 9-15: knit in dark green.
Rounds 16-18: work the color pattern.
Rounds 19-35: knit in dark green
Rounds 36-38: work the color pattern.
Rounds 39-40: knit in dark green,
Round 41: purl.
Rounds 42-46: knit. Bind off.

Finishing

Fold the hem along the purl row and slipstitch to the wrong side. Weave in yarn ends.
Cut several strands of dark and light green yarn 12-15 inches long and pleat them to make a cord, tie the ends.
Insert the cord into the tube along the neckline. Draw the strings.




Legwarmers

Worked in 1x1 rib and stockinette, in-the-round, on dpn.

With dark green yarn, co 30 sts, distribute on dpn evenly, join and continue to work in rounds.
Work 7 rounds in 1x1 rib.
Work in stockinette the next 2 rounds.

The next 3 rounds work the color pattern.
The next 4 rounds work in stockinette with dark green yarn.
The next 3 rounds work in color pattern.

The next 9 rounds work in stockinette with dark green yarn.
The next 7 rounds work in 1x1 rib. Bind off. Weave in yarn ends.

Hat

The hat is worked in rounds on dpn from bottom up as a tube.

With dark green yarn cast on 60 sts, distribute on dpn, join into round and continue to work in rounds, take care not to twist the sts.
Work in stockinette 4 rounds: all rounds knit.
Round 5: purl.
Work in stockinette the next 4 rounds.
Fold the piece lengthwise along the purl row, wrong side inwards. *Insert left needle into the first st on the cast-on edge, knit it together with the next st on needle. Repeat from * for every st to the end of the row. This will finish the hem.

Round 10: knit
Rounds 11-13: work color pattern
Rounds 14-16: knit with dark green yarn
Rounds 17-19: work color pattern
Rounds 20-23: knit with dark green yarn
Rounds 24-25: work the first 2 rounds of the color pattern
Rounds 26-30: knit with light green yarn
Rounds 31-33: work color pattern
Rounds 34-45: knit with light green yarn.
Cut yarn leaving 12" long tail. Thread the tail through all sts and pull yarn to close the opening.

Finishing

Weve in yarn ends. Out of dark and light green yarns make a pom-pom and sew it to the top.

I had the same problem pictures no pattern. I copied and pasted the pattern onto a word document. Just means I have the pictures and pattern in 2 different documents.
