Free Doll Sweater Knitting Pattern

Skills Required/Techniques Used:

-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off

-Decreasing: knit 2 together (k2tog)

Materials: Brown Sheep Nature Spun sport weight yarn, 1 3/4 oz (40 gr) 184 yards (168 m), color 740S Snow - about 1/2 ball and color 112S Elf Green - about 1/3 ball

Needles: US 2 (2.75mm) circular needles and dpn OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge for stockinette stitch: 26 st = 4" (10 cm)

Notions: yarn needle, stitch marker, crochet hook 2.75 mm, 4 stitch holders or 4 pieces of waste yarn, 8 small buttons, sewing needle and thread to attach the buttons.

Abbreviations

dpn – double pointed needles

K – knit

P – purl

St – stitch

Sts - stitches

as est. - as established, work as the pattern demands, here knit the RS rows and purl the WS rows.

co – cast on

RS – right side

WS – wrong side

bb – button band

sc - single crochet stitch

Pattern Notes


Stockinette Stitch in rows:
Row 1 (RS): knit
Row 2 (WS): purl

Repeat two rows.


Stockinette Stitch in rounds: knit all rounds

1x1 Rib in rows:
Row 1 (RS): *k 1, p 1 - repeat from * across
Row 2 (WS): *p 1, k 1 - repeat from * across

Repeat two rows.

1 x 1 Rib in rounds:
All rounds *k1, p1 - repeat from * across

Edge stitches: knit the first st and purl the last st in the row

Sweater

The sweater is worked from the bottom up, back and forth with a back fastening and a round yoke.
Sleeves are worked in rounds on dpn. The button band is crocheted.

Bodice

With green yarn, cast on 79 sts.
Work 6 rows in 1x1 rib:

Row 1 (RS): k1, *k1, p1 - repeat across

Row 2 (WS): *k1, p1 - repeat across to last st, p1. Repeat rows 1-2 two more times.

Change to white yarn.

Row 7 (RS): k78, p1.

Row 8 (WS): k1, p78.
In the next row start the Tree pattern from row 3. Work the tree pattern through rows 9-17.
Work rows 18-28 with white yarn in stockinette st: RS rows knit, WS rows purl.

Sleeves

Sleeves are worked in rounds on dpn, make 2:

With green yarn, co 26 sts, distribute evenly on 3-4 dpns. Place a stitch marker at the beginning of the round, slip marker while working.

Work 1x1 rib for 6 rounds: *k1, p1 - repeat across.
Change to white yarn and work in stockinette 28 rounds: all rounds knit. Cut yarn.
Transfer 3 sts at the end of the round and 3 sts in the beg of the round to a stitch-holder or piece of waste yarn. Leave the rest sts on needles.

Yoke

Row 1 (RS): With white yarn knit 17 sts, transfer the next 6 sts to piece of waste yarn, knit 20 sts of the first sleeve from the dpn, knit 33 sts of the front, transfer the next 6 sts to a piece of waste yarn, knit 20 sts of the second sleeve from dpn, knit 16 sts , p1= 107 sts.

Row 2 (WS): k1, p106.
Work in stockinette 2 more rows: row 3 - k106, p1, row 4: k1, p106.
Row 5 (RS) work with green yarn: k106, p1.
Row 6 (WS, decrease row) work with green yarn: k1, *1p, p2tog - rep from * to last st, p1.= 72 sts
Row 7 (RS) : k1, *k1 in green, k1 in white - repeat from * to last 1 st, p1 (in green).
Row 8 (WS): k1, *p1 in white, p1 in green - rep from * to last 2 st, p2 (in green)
Rows 9 (RS) - knit - and 10 (WS) - purl in green, cut the green yarn, go on working with white yarn.
Row 11 (RS): k71, p1.

Row 12 (WS): k1, p71.
Row 13 (RS, decrease row): k1, * k1, k2tog rep from * to last 2 st, k1, p1 = 49 sts.

Row 14 (WS): k1, p48.

Row 15 (RS): k48, p1.

Repeat rows 14-15 one more time. Repeat row 14 one more time.
Row 19 (RS): k2, *k1, k2tog rep from * to last 2, k1, p1. = 34 sts
Row 20 (WS): k1, p33. Continue to work collar.

Collar
Row 21 (RS): k33, p1.

Row 22 (WS): k33, p1.
Repeat rows 21-22 five more times, bind off.

Finishing

Sew (graft) the underarm stitches.

With RS facing, with crochet hook and green yarn, starting from the hem of the left back edge, sc along the edge up to the collar, sc along the collar edge, sc down along edge of the right back to the hem. Turn and work 1 sc in each sc back to the beg of the collar, turn.
Last row: *1 sc in each of the next 3 sc, ch 3, skip 3 sc - rep from * to the last 3 sts, 1 sc in each of the last 3 sc.

Weave in all yarn ends. Sew buttons on the left edge of back opening.
