Free Doll Vest Knitting Pattern

This cute knitted outfit consists of a sweater, vest, skirt, tights, hat and shoes to change a doll into one of Santa's elves. It's a great decoration for around the house or on your Christmas tree and, of course, a perfect toy.
This outfit will fit a 14" doll from the Hearts for Hearts Girls series

Skills Required/Techniques Used:

-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off

-Decreasing: knit 2 together (k2tog), slip-slip-knit (ssk)

Materials: Knit Picks Palette fingering weight yarn, 231 yards (211 meters) / 50gr, colors: 1982 Grass, 4932 Serrano and 9437 white one ball each for the whole outfit.

Notions: yarn needle.

Needles: circular US #2 (2.75mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge 20 sts x 30 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm)

Abbreviations:

K – knit

P – purl

St, sts – stitch, stitches

k2tog - knit 2 sts together

ssk - slip-slip- knit (slip the first st as if to knit, knit the next one, pass the slipped st over the knitted one)

co – cast on

RS – right side

WS – wrong side

Pattern Notes:

Stockinette in rows:
Row 1: knit
Row 2: purl
Repeat rows 1-2.

Garter stitch in rouws: all rows knit

The selvedge/edge stitches are worked as follows: knit the first stitch and purl the last one.

Vest

The vest is worked from bottom up, back and forth, without side seams, up to armholes, then both fronts and the back are worked separately from 3 ball of yarn.

Cast on 44 sts
Work 5 rows in garter st: all rows k 43, p1.
Row 6 (WS and all WS rows thru row 16): k5, p34, k4, p1.
Row 7 (RS and all RS rows thru row 17): k 43, p1

Repeat rows 6-7 five more times.

Row 18 (WS): k5, p3, k6, p16, k6, p3, k4, p1.
Row 19 (RS): k43, p1
Row 20 (WS): repeat row 18.
Row 21: k8 (front), bind off 6 sts (underarm), k16 (back), bind off 6 sts (underarm), k 7, p1(front)
Row 22 (WS and all WS rows) work from 3 balls of yarn: k7, p1 (front) - k 3, p 10, k 2, p1 (back) - k 7, p1 (front)
Row 23 (RS and all RS rows): k7, p1 (front) - k 15, p1 (back) - k 7, p1 (front)

Repeat rows 22 and 23 two more times

Shaping front neckline:
Row 28 WS and al WS rows): knit till last st, p1.
Row 29 (RS): k1 , ssk, k5 (= 7 sts , front) - k16 (back) - k5, k2tog, k (= 7 sts, front)
Row 31 (RS): k1, ssk, k4 ( = 6 sts, front) - k16 (back) - k4, k2tog, k1 ( = 6 sts, front)
Row 33 (RS): k1, ssk, k3 ( =5 sts, front) - k16 (back) - k3, k2tog, k1 (= 5 sts, front)
Row 35 (RS): k1, ssk, k2 (= 4sts, front) - k16 (back) - k2, k2tog, k1 (= 4 sts, front)
Bind off.

Finishing:
Sew the shoulders. Weave in all yarn ends.
