Size: 8" (20 cm) long and 18" (45 cm) wide at the widest part

Skills Required/Techniques Used:

-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off

-Increasing: make 1 (m1)

-Working simple cable


Materials: Knit Picks Palette fingering weight 100% wool yarn 210 m (231 yds)/ 50 g color Semolina - 1 ball.

Notions: yarn needle, 2 stitch markers, cable needle.

Needles: #2 (2.75 mm)

Gauge for garter stitch: 22 sts x 48 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm). Gauge is not crucial for this pattern.

Abbreviations:

K – knit

P – purl

St, sts – stitch, stitches

co – cast on

RS – right side

WS – wrong side

C4F - Cable 4 Front (see how to work in Pattern Notes)

m 1 - make 1 increase - I used the increase described by Elizabeth Zimmerman: make a backward loop over the right-hand needle and in the next row/round purl/knit it as a regular stitch.

sm - slip marker

Pattern Notes:

Garter stitch: all rows knit.

Stockinette:

Row 1 (RS): knit

Row 2 (WS): purl. Repeat 2 rows.

Cable 4 Front (C4F): slip 2 sts to the cable needle, hold the stitches at the front of the work, knit the next 2 sts, then knit 2 sts from the cable needle.

The selvedge/edge stitches are worked as follows: slip the first stitch knitwise and purl the last one.

Directions:
Shawl is worked from the neck down. Four increases are made every right side row.
Cast on 10 sts.
Knit 1 foundation row, place a marker after 3rd stitch and another marker after 7th stitch. Slip markers while working.
