Size: 73" (1600 cm) long and 10.5" (27 cm) wide at the widest part

Materials:
Hand-dyed Brushed Kid Mohair 86% Kid Mohair & 14% Nylon lace weight yarn, 240 yards (220 m) / 56 gr (2 oz) from www.scandinavianweaveandknit.com - 2 skeins
Elann Peruvian Baby Lace Merino lace weight 50% alpaca 50% merino wool yarn, color 1321 Tapestry Blue, 600 yards (549 meters) / 50 gr - 1 skein

Needles: #4 (3.5 mm)

Gauge:
16 sts  x 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4" x 4")

Patterns:

Garter Stitch:
All rows knit

Wrap and turn in the short rows:
With yarn in front sl 1 stitch to the right needle.
Move yarn between the needles to the back.
Slip the stitch back to the left needle.
Turn the work and bring yarn back to the wrong side between the needles.


Directions

The shawlette was knit with 2 strands of yarn (mohair and wool), except for the ruffle, which is knit only with mohair yarn to make the ruffle lighter and more airy. The number of the stitches in the main part will change - first it will increase, then decrease. The number of the stitches in the ruffle will remain the same - 12 sts.

Cast on 3 sts with 2 strands of yarn: mohair and wool ( this will be the main part of the shawlette) and 12 sts with mohair only (this will be the ruffle).

Row 1 (WS): k12  with mohair yarn, k3 with both yarns
Row 2 (RS): k3  with both yarns, k12 with mohair
Row 3:   

 

Short Rows Ruffle:
Short row 1: k10 with mohair, wrap, turn
Short row 2: k10, turn
Short row 3: k8, wrap, turn
Short row 4: k8, turn
Short row 5: k6, wrap, turn
Short row 6: k6, turn
Short row 7: k4, wrap, turn
Short row 8: k4, turn
Short row 9: k2, wrap, turn
Short row 10: k2, turn

k12 with mohair, k3 with both yarns

Row 4: k2, k1f&b (increase by knitting into the front and back of a stitch) with both yarns, k12 with mohair.
Row 5 and all odd rows: like row 3
In every 4th row increase by 1 stitch by knitting into the front and back of the last stitch of the main part.
Increase by 1 stitch in rows 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 68, 72, 76, 80, 84, 88, 92, 96, 100, 104, 108, 112, 116, 120, 124, 128, 132, 136, 140, 144, 148, 152, 156, 160.
After row 161, start decreasing by 1 stitch by working ssk the last 2 sts of the main part.
Make decreases in rows 162, 166, 170, 174, 178, 182, 186, 190, 194, 198, 202, 206, 210, 214, 218, 222, 226, 230, 234, 238, 242, 246, 250, 254, 258, 262, 266, 270, 274, 278, 282, 286, 290, 294, 298, 302, 306, 310, 314, 318, 322.
Bind off the remaining 3 sts of the main part and 12 sts of the ruffle.
