Free Baby Bonnet Knitting Pattern

Size: 18/24

Materials:Gaia by Filati Bertagna 100% wool fingering weight yarn 100 m (109 yrd) /25g Color blue - 1 skein (color A).
Gaia by Filati Bertagna 100% wool fingering weight yarn 100 m (109 yrd) /25g Color white - 1 skein (color B).
Needles: 2 (2.75 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge for stocking stitch: 23 st x 30 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Patterns:

Two-Color Waves Pattern
Multiple of 11
Rows 1 (WS):Color A (blue), knit
Rows 2-5: knit (garter stitch).
Rows 6, 8 and 10: Color B (white), *k2tog, k2, knit into the front and the back of the next 2 sts, k3, ssk*, repeat from * to *
Rows 7, 9 and 11: purl.
Row 12: Color A (blue), repeat row 6.
Repeat rows 1-12.

Stocking Stitch
1 row and all odd rows - knit sts
2 row and all even rows - purl sts

Selvedge stitches
The 1st and last stitch of the pattern are selvedge stitches. To make the edges of your work even and smooth 2 more stitches (selvedge stitches) are added. You should always slip the first stitch as if to knit and purl the last stitch. The selvedge stitches are not counted in the pattern unless otherwise specified.

Directions
Cast on 79 sts (including edge stitches, edge stitches are not part of the pattern).
Knit Two-Color Waves pattern for 43 rows.
Row 42 (6th row of the pattern): *k2tog, k6, ssk*, repeat from * to *. After this row there will be 65 sts.
Divide the stitches othe needle as follows: 22, 21, 22.
Continue to work the middle part of the bonnet in stocking stitch as follows:
Row 44 and all even rows: k20, k2tog the last stitch of the middle part and the 1st st of the left part.
Row 45 and all odd rows: p20, p2tog the last stitch of the middle part and the 1st st of the right part.
Continue to repeat rows 44-45 until there is no stitches left in the right and the left parts. Transfer all the stitches to the circular needles.

Finishing:
With blue yarn work I-cord on 4 sts for 7" (18 cm).
Pick up sts along the bottom edge of the bonnet including the sts of the back of the bonnet. Work applied I-cord on this stitches. (see video instructions)
Work I-cord on 4 sts for 7" (18 cm). Cast off.
