Size: 18/24 months

Materials: Knit Picks Wool of the Andes 100% wool worsted weight yarn 110 yards (101 meters) / 50 grams, color - 1 skein (MC)

Needles: 3 US 7 (4.50 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Gauge: 16 st x 36 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm)

Short Overview of the Pattern:

The bonnet is worked from the front edge (ear to ear). After the desired depth of the bonnet is achieved, the stitches are partially decreased on each side and only the stitches in the middle are worked to make a flap. Then the sides of the flap and the closed sts on the sides are sewn together.

Hat

With MC yarn cast on 60 sts

Rows 1-10: sl, knit to the last st, p1.

Rows 11-14: with CC yarn, sl, knit to the last st, p1.

Rows 15-18: with MC yarn, sl, knit to the last st, p1.

Rows 19-22 (decrease rows): with CC yarn, sl, k2tog, knit to the last 3 sts, k2tog, p1. After each row the number of sts decreases by 2. 52 sts after row 22.

Rows 23-30 (decrease rows): with MC yarn, sl, k2tog, knit to the last 3 sts, k2tog, p1. After each row the number of sts decreases by 2. 36 sts after row 30.

Rows 31-34: cast off 4 sts, knit to the last st, p1. After each row the number of sts decreases by 4. 20 sts after row 34.

Rows 35-78: sl, knit to the last st, p1.

Bind off.


Finishing:

Weave in ends. Block.

Join the side seams of the bonnet.

With CC yarn work applied I-cord along the bottom of the hat.

With CC yarn knit 8" (20 cm) of I-cord on 4 sts. Join to the right corner of the front edge of the bonnet and continue as applied I-cord along the front edge of the bonnet till the left corner. Then continue as 8" (20 cm) of I-cord on 4 sts. Cast off.
