Free Pullover Knitting Pattern

Size: 8/10 (38/40)

Materials: 100% Alpaca DROPS Alpaca sport weight yarn 197 yd (180 m) / 50 g color 401 Brown - 6 skeins. (A)
100% Alpaca DROPS Alpaca sport weight yarn 197 yd (180 m) / 50 g color 2923 Goldenrod Yellow - 2 skeins. (B)
100% Alpaca DROPS Alpaca sport weight yarn 197 yd (180 m) / 50 g color 2110 Wheat - 1 skein. (C)
Needles: 2 pairs of 1 (2.25 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Gauge for stocking stitch: 20 st x 26 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Patterns:

Stocking Stitch
1 row and all odd rows - knit sts
2 row and all even rows - purl sts

Smocking Pattern
Multiple of 6 sts plus 3.
Row 1: k 2, *sl 5 wyif (with yarn in front), k 1*, repeat from * to *, k 1.
Row 2 and all even rows: purl.
Row 3: k4, * insert needle under loose strand and knit next st, bringing st out under strand, k 5, * repeat from * to *, k 1, sl 3 wyif, k 1.
Row 5: k 1, sl 3 wyif, * k 1, sl 5 wyif, * repeat from * to *, k 1, sl 3 wyif, k 1.
Row 7: k 1, * knit next st under loose strand, k 5, * repeat from * to *, k 1.
Repeat rows 1-8.

3-Needle Joining Technique
Hold the two knitted tiers together facing right side (right side of the bottom tier to the wrong side of the top tier) with needles parallel and pointing in the same direction. Insert the third needle into the first st on each needle and knit them together.

Back
With yarn C cast on 101 sts (including edge stitches).
Knit stocking stitch for 24 rows and set aside.
With yarn B cast on 101 sts (including edge stitches).
Knit stocking stitch for 10 rows.
Join the tiers with 3-needle joining technique, the tier from yarn B being the top and the tier from yarn C the bottom.
Knit the 2nd tier (yarn B) stocking stitch for 23 rows (24 rows with the joining row) and set aside.
With yarn A cast on 101 sts (including edge stitches).
Knit stocking stitch for 12 rows.
Join the tiers with 3-needle joining technique, the tier from yarn A being the top and the tier from yarn B the bottom.
Continue to knit stocking stitch for 47 rows (48 rows with the joining row).
Row 49: *k 4, yo, k2tog*, repeat from * to *, k 3 (eyelet row)
Row 49: start knitting Smocking pattern.
Rows 49-64: smocking pattern.
Row 65: cast off 7 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 66: cast off 7 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 67: cast off 2 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 68: cast off 2 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 69: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 70: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 71: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 72: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 73: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 74: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Rows 75-140: continue to knit smocking stitch.
Row 141: cast off 31 sts in the middle of the row and continue to knit left and right parts separately.
Rows 142-144: smocking pattern. Cast off.

Front
With yarn C cast on 113 sts (including edge stitches).
Knit stocking stitch for 24 rows and set aside.
With yarn B cast on 113 sts (including edge stitches).
Knit stocking stitch for 10 rows.
Join the tiers with 3-needle joining technique, the tier from yarn B being the top and the tier from yarn C the bottom.
Knit the 2nd tier (yarn B) stocking stitch for 23 rows (24 rows with the joining row) and set aside.
With yarn A cast on 113 sts (including edge stitches).
Knit stocking stitch for 12 rows.
Join the tiers with 3-needle joining technique, the tier from yarn A being the top and the tier from yarn B the bottom.
Continue to knit stocking stitch for 47 rows (48 rows with the joining row).
Row 49: *k 4, yo, k2tog*, repeat from * to *, k 3 (eyelet row)
Row 49: start knitting Smocking pattern.
Rows 49-64: smocking pattern.
Row 65: cast off 7 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 66: cast off 7 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 67: cast off 2 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 68: cast off 2 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 69: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 70: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 71: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 72: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 73: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 74: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Rows 75-120: continue to knit smocking stitch.
Row 121: cast off 31 sts in the middle of the row and continue to knit left and right parts separately.
To continue shaping the neckline decrease for for 1 sts in every second row 6 times (6 sts on each side, total 43 sts for the neckline).
Rows 122-144: smocking pattern. Cast off.

Sleeve
With yarn C cast on 46 sts (including edge stitches).
Knit stocking stitch for 10 rows
Rows 11-24: increase for 1 sts on both sides in each odd row (total 14 sts). Set aside.
With yarn B cast on 60 sts (including edge stitches).
Knit stocking stitch for 10 rows.
Join the tiers with 3-needle joining technique, the tier from yarn B being the top and the tier from yarn C the bottom.
Knit the 2nd tier (yarn B) stocking stitch for 23 rows (24 rows with the joining row) increasing for 1 sts on both sides of the row in each odd row (staring from row 13) 6 times (there should be 82 sts after all the increases). Set aside.
With yarn A cast on 82 sts (including edge stitches).
Knit stocking stitch for 12 rows.
Join the tiers with 3-needle joining technique, the tier from yarn A being the top and the tier from yarn B the bottom.
Continue to knit stocking stitch for 47 rows (48 rows with the joining row).
Row 48: increase for 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 49: start knitting Smocking pattern.
Rows 49-64: smocking pattern.
Row 65: cast off 7 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 66: cast off 7 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 67: cast off 2 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 68: cast off 2 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 69: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 70: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 71: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 72: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 73: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Row 74: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Rows 75-112: continue to knit smocking stitch.
Rows 113-140: decrease for 1 st on both sides in each odd row.
Cast off remaining sts.

Finishing:
Join shoulder seams.
Pick up 160 sts along the neckline on circular needles and knit stocking stitch for 12 rows for the rolled-up collar. Cast off.
Set in sleeves.
Join side seams and sleeve seams.
