Free Doll Sweater Knitting Pattern

Skills Required/Techniques Used:

-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off

-Decreasing: knit 2 together (k2tog), slip-slip-knit (ssk)

-Picking up stitches

Materials: Red Heart Super Saver 100% acrylic yarn worsted weight, color - Watercolor, 223 m (244 yds)/141 g - 1 skein.

Notions: yarn needle, 4-5 sew-on snaps.

Needles: US#4 (3.50 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Gauge:14 st x 17 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm)

Pattern Notes:

1x1 rib (multiple of 2 +1):

Row 1 (RS): *k1, p1 - repeat from * to last st, k1.

Row 2 (WS): *p1, k1 - repeat from * to last st, p1.

Repeat rows 1-2.

Stockinette:
Row 1 (RS and all RS rows): knit
Row 2 (WS and all WS rows: purl

Repeat rows 1-2

The selvedge/edge stitches are worked as follows: slip the first stitch knitwise and purl the last one.

Abbreviations:

K – knit

P – purl

St, sts – stitch, stitches

pu&k - pick up and knit

sl - slip

co – cast on

RS – right side

WS – wrong side

Sweater

Each part of the sweater is worked separately, bottom up, then the parts are sewn together.

Front
Cast on 30 sts.

Row 1 (RS): *k1, p1 - repeat from * to the end of the row.

Row 2 (WS): sl1, *p1, k1 - repeat from * to last st, p1.

Repeat rows 1-2 one more time.

Row 5 (RS): sl1, k28, p1.
Row 6 (WS): sl1, p29.
Repeat rows 5-6 twelve more times.
Row 31 (RS): sl1, k10, bind off 8, k10, p1. Continiue to work the left and right sides of the front separately from 2 balls of yarn, 11 sts on each side.

Row 32 (WS): (sl1, k9, p1) on each side from 2 balls of yarn.

Row 33 (RS, decrease to shape neckline): left side: sl1, k7, k2tog, p1; right side: k1, ssk, k7, p1. (=10 sts on each side)
Row 34 (WS): (sl1, p9) on each side from 2 balls of yarn.

Row 35 (RS): (sl1, k8, p1) on each side from 2 balls of yarn.

Row 36: like row 34. Bind off.

Back

Cast on 30 sts.

Row 1 (RS): *k1, p1 - repeat from * to the end of the row.

Row 2 (WS): sl1, *p1, k1 - repeat from * to last st, p1.

Repeat rows 1-2 one more time.

Row 5 (RS): sl1, k28, p1.
Row 6 (WS): sl1, p29.

Repeat rows 5-6 one more time.

From row 9 (RS) divide the stitches into 2 parts and continue each part separately from 2 balls of yarn: sl1, k13, p1, attach another balls of yarn, sl1, k13, p1.

Row 10 (WS): sl1, p14.

Repeat rows 9 and 10 ten more times. Repeat row 9 one more time.
Row 32 (WS): right side : sl1, k14; left side: bind off 4 sts, p11.
Row 33 (RS): left side: sl1, k9, p1; right side: bind off 4 sts, k10, p1. (=11 sts on each side)

Row 34 (WS): sl1, p10 on each side

Row 35 (WS): sl1, k9, p1 on each side.

Row 36 like row 34. Bind off.

Sleeve

Cast on 20 sts

Row 1 (RS): *k1, p1 - repeat from * to the end of the row.

Row 2 (WS): sl1, *p1, k1 - repeat from * to last st, p1.

Repeat rows 1-2 one more time.

Row 5 (RS): sl1, k18, p1.

Row 6 (WS): sl1, p19.

Repeat rows 5-6 eight more times. Bind off. Make the second sleeve.

Collar:

Join shoulder seams.
Pick up 36 sts along the neckline and work 10 rows of 1x1 rib: *k1,p1 - repeat from * to the end of the row. Bind off.

Finishing:

Join side seams and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.
Sew 4 sew-on snaps to the back opening.
