Free Doll Cardigan Crochet Pattern

Materials: Aunt Lydia's crochet thread Size #10 white - 1 ball, small amount of blue thread for finishing.

Crochet hook B (2.25 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 26 st x 8 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Cardigan

The body of the cardigan is worked as one piece starting from the hem of the back and finishing both fronts separately.

Body

Chain 39.

Row 1: dc in the 5th chain from the hook (3-chain space counts as 1 dc), dc in each chain across, turn. (= 36 dc)

Row 2: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in dc, *ch 1, skip dc, 1 dc in the next dc – repeat from * across, turn.

Row 3: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *1 dc in chain-space, 1 dc in dc – repeat from * across, turn. (=36 dc)

Rows 4 through 17: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc across, turn. (=36 dc)

Row 18: divide for left and right front: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 11 dc. Skip the next 12 dc, start from another ball of thread: fasten thread to the 25th dc and chain 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc to the end of the row. You have 12 dc in each part for shoulders.

Rows 19 through 23: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in each of the 11 dc. Repeat for the other front part. Turn. (= 12 dc in each part)

Row 24: left front: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 10 dc, 2 dc in the last dc. Right front: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the same dc, 1 dc in each of the next dc. (=13 dc in each part)

Rows 25, 27, 29, 31, 33: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc across. Turn.

Row 26: left front: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 10 dc, 2 dc in the last dc. Right front: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the same dc, 1 dc in each of the next dc. (=14 dc in each part)

Row 28: left front: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 10 dc, 2 dc in the last dc. Right front: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the same dc, dc in each of the next dc. (=15 dc in each part)

Row 30: left front: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 10 dc, 2 dc in the last dc. Right front: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the same dc, 1 dc in each of the next dc. (=16 dc in each part)

Row 32: left front: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 10 dc, 2 dc in the last dc. Right front: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the same dc, 1 dc in each of the next dc. (=17 dc in each part)

Row 34: left front: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 10 dc, 2 dc in the last dc. Right front: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the same dc, 1 dc in each of the next dc. (=18 dc in each part)

Row 35: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *1 dc in the next dc, ch 1 –repeat from * across. Work the other part in the same way.

Row 36: ch 1, *1 sc in dc, sc in ch-space – repeat from * across. Work the other part in the same way. Tie off. Cut thread.


Sleeve

Chain 49.

Row 1: 1 dc in the 5th ch from the hook (3-chain space counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each chain across, turn. (= 46 dc)

Row 2: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each dc across until the last 2 dc, skip the first dc, 1 dc in the last dc, turn. (= 44 dc)

Rows 3, 4, 5 work as row 2. You will have 38 dc in row 5.

Row 6: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), skip 1 dc, 1 dc in the next dc, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in the next dc – repeat across till the last 2 dc, skip the first dc, 1 dc in the last dc. Turn

Row 7: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *1 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in chain space – repeat from * across. (= 36 dc)


Finishing

Fold the sleeve in half, align the edges and mark the central (shoulder) line on each sleeve.
Fold the body of the cardigan in half, align the hems of the front parts and back. Mark the shoulder lines.
Unfold the sleeves and the body. Align the shoulder lines; sew the sleeves to the body. Now fold the cardigan again, align all edges.  Sew the sides with one seam – from hem of the cardigan to hem of the sleeve.

Front and Neck Bands

Starting from the right front hem, fasten blue thread and work 2 rows of sc along the front edge, neckline and front edge.
