Free Doll Top Crochet Pattern

Materials: Aunt Lydia's crochet thread Size #10 white - 1 ball, small amount of blue thread for finishing.
6 small buttons

Crochet hook B (2.25 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 26 st x 8 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)


Top

The top is worked from bottom up in 3 pieces: front, left back and right back pieces, which are then sewn on shoulders and sides. 3 chains in the beginning of row count as 1 dc.

Front

Chain 39.
Row 1: 1 dc in the 5th chain from the hook (3 chains count as 1 dc), 1 dc in each chain space, turn. (= 36 dc in the row)

Row 2:  ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the next dc, *ch 1, skip dc, 1 dc in the next dc – repeat from *across, turn.

Rows 3: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *1 dc in 1-chain space, 1 dc in dc – repeat from * across, 1 dc in the last dc, turn. (=36 dc)

Rows 4 – 15: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc across, turn. (= 36 dc)

To shape neckline continue left and right sides separately:

Row 16: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the next 11 dc. Skip the next 12 dc, start from another ball of thread: fasten thread to the 25th dc and chain 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc to the end of the row. You have 12 dc in each part for shoulders.

Rows 17 and 18: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc. (=12 dc on each shoulder). Tie off. Cut thread on both shoulders.


Right Back

Chain 20.

Row 1: 1 dc in the 5th chain from the hook (3 chains count as 1 dc), 1 dc in each chain space, turn. (= 17 dc)

Row 2: ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and 1 ch), skip one dc, 1 dc in the next dc, *ch 1, skip one dc, 1 dc in the next dc – repeat from * across, turn.

Row 3: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *1 dc in chain-space, 1 dc in the next dc – repeat from * across, turn. (= 17 dc)

Rows 4 -14:  ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc, turn. (=17 dc)

Rows 15-18: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 11 dc. Tie off. Cut thread.


Left back: Crochet as right back.


Finishing

Join side and shoulder seams.

Button Bands

Left Band: fasten thread to the lower corner of the left back. Chain 3 (counts as 1 dc), along the left edge make 21 dc in the edge up to the neckline. Turn. Chain 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc.

Right Band:  make the same band on the right back edge.

Neck Band:
With blue thread work 2 rows of sc along the neckline.

Arm Bands:
With blue thread work 2 rows of sc along the arm opening.

Sew on 6 small buttons on the right back band. Use the space between the dc on the left back band as buttonholes.
