Lace Summer Top with Filet Inserts

Materials: Aunt Lidya's crochet thread Size #10, 350 yds (300 m) - 5 balls.

Crochet hook 1 (2.75 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 1 pattern repeat - 2 1/2" (6 cm)

Filet : 35 st x 17 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Pattern: Multiple of 16 sts + 5 (plus 1 for base row)

Base row: 1 sc into 2nd ch from hook, (skip 1 ch, 5 dc into next ch, skip 1 ch, 1 sc into next ch, ch 5, skip 3 ch) repeat to the end of the row.End with 1 sc, skip 1 ch, 5 dc, skip 1 ch, 1 sc into next ch, turn.

Row 1: *(5 ch, 1 sc into next 5-ch arch) twice, 5 dc into next sc, 1 sc into 3rd of next 5 dc, 5 dc into next sc, 1 sc into next arch*, repeat from * to *, ending 5 ch, 1 sc into nexy arch, 2 ch, 1 dc into last sc, skip 1 ch, turn.

Row 2: 1 ch, 1 sc into first st, skip 2 ch, *5 ch, 1 sc into next 5-ch arch, 5 dc into next sc, 1 sc into 3rd of next 5 dc, 5 ch, 1 sc into 3rd of next 5 dc, 5 dc into next sc, 1 sc into next arch*, repeat from * to *, ending 5 ch, 1 sc into 2-ch arch, turn.

Lace Inserts

Square Lace Insert
Chain 45
Rows 1-19: *1 dc, 1 ch, skip next loop* repeat along the row. Tie off.

Second Lace Insert
Chain 45
Rows 1-10: *1 dc, 1 ch, skip next loop* repeat along the row.
Rows 11-19: continue filet net on the half of the row (see drawing). Tie off.
Connect these lace inserts by crocheting the sides together with sc.

Triangle Lace Insert
Chain 29 (base of the triangle).
Rows 1-8: *1 dc, 1 ch, skip next loop* repeat along the row, decreasing one cell at the begining and end of the row. Tie off. Crochet 2.

Top body
Top crocheted as one piece starting from the bottom of the back and finishing on the bottom of the front (see drawing).
Chain 118 (134, 150, 166).
Rows 1-80: Crochet 7 (8, 9, 10) pattern repeats horizontally and 10 repeats vertically.
Rows 81-88: Make decreases at both sides for the triangle lace inserts (see chart for left and right decreases).
Rows 89-96: Make increases at both sides for the triangle lace inserts (see chart for left and right increases)..
To shape the neckline in the row 81 work 3 pattern repeats, turn and continue to work the right side of the neckline back and forth decreasing for 1 pattern repeat in 8 rows (rows 81-88).
Join the yarn on the other side of the back (pattern repeats from the right edge), and work the left side of the neck mirroring the right side.
To shape the front neck line increase on both sides adding 1 pattern repeat on both sides in 9 rows (rows 89-96).
Row 97: work the right side stitches, chain 32 (for 2 pattern repeats), work left side stitches. Continue to work the front for 2 more pattern repeats (16 rows).
Continue to crochet front making space for connected lace inseets (see drawing) working from 2 balls of yarn as follows :
decrease on both sides for 16 rows
increase for 8 rows
decrease for 8 rows
increase for 16 rows.
Connect both sides. Continue to work for 16 rows.
Tie off.

 

Finishing:
Attach front and triangle lace inserts by sc. To make a flange around the inserts croche 2 additional rows of sc.
Crochet 3 rows of sc along the bottom of the top, along the neckline and armholes.
