White Vest with Cables

Free Knitting Pattern

Size: 12/14 (42/44)

Materials: Wool worsted weight yarn 140m/100g - 6 balls.
Needles: 10 (6 mm) and 10.5 (7 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 20 st = 4" (10 cm)

Patterns:

Rib: 1k, 1p

Basic pattern:
Row 1. 1k, 1p
Row 2. all k.
Repeat row 1 and 2.

Large Cable on 30 sts:
Row 1. 1 p, C2F (cable 2 front, 2 sts), 4 p, 4 k, 3 p, 2 k, 3 p, 4 k, 4 p, C2F, 1 p.
Row 2 and all even. Knit as set.
Repeat rows 1-10.
Row 11. 1 p, C2F, 4 p, C8F, C8B, 4 p, C2F, 1 p.
Repeat rows 1-12.

Back
Cast on 96 sts (including edge stitches) on 10 (6 mm) needles.
Knit rib for 12 rows. In the last row add evenly 31 sts.
Continue on 10.5 (7 mm) needles on 127 sts: 1 edge st, 15 st basic pattern, 30 st cable, 35 st basic pattern, 30 st cable, 15 st basic pattern, 1 edge st.
Continue for 68 rows.
Rows 69-124: 1 edge st, 7 st rib, 8 st basic pattern, 30 st cable, 35 st basic pattern, 30 st cable, 8 st basic pattern, 7 st rib, 1 edge st.
Cast off.

Left Front
Cast on 51 sts (including edge stitches) on 10 (6 mm) needles.
Knit rib for 12 rows. In the last row add evenly 15 sts.
Continue on 10.5 (7 mm) needles on 61 sts: 1 edge st, 15 st basic pattern, 30 st cable, 14 st basic pattern, rib on 9 sts (for button band), 1 edge st.
Continue for 68 rows.
Row 69: 1 edge st, 7 st rib, 8 st basic pattern, 30 st cable, 14 st basic pattern, rib on 9 sts (for button band), 1 edge st.
To shape the V-neck line decrease evenly 11 sts, decreasing the last st of the basic pattern, before the button band.
Continue for 56 rows. Cast off all stitches except for button band 9 sts. Knit rib 2 in (5 cm) to make neck band. Cast off.

Right Front
Knit as left front.

Finishing:
Join side and shoulder seams. Sew on the neck band to the back. Sew on 6 buttons.

Cable2Front is on 2 sts: hold 1 st in front, knit the second, then knit the first.

I don't understand "cable2 front. Please explain. Hold 2 in front and k2 then k the 2 from front needle, but then there are 34 stitches not 30. help!?

I don't understand the directions for the cable on this vest. Need clarification or a video to show what is meant by "C2F(cable to front)
I would also appreciate adjustments for other sizes (I need a size 40 instead of 42/44. Thanks
