Forest Meadows Baby Blanket

Free Baby Blanket Crochet Pattern

Size: 34.5" x 34.5" (86 cm x 86 cm) square

Materials: Red Heart (affiliate link) Super Saver 100% acrylic yarn worsted weight, color Lavender, 333 m (364 yds)/198 g - 2 skeins.  (A)
Red Heart (affiliate link) Classic Multi 100% acrylic yarn worsted weight, color Watercolor 167 yds (153 m) /85 g - 2 skeins (B)

Hook: H (5.0 mm)

Gauge: 7 V-sts x 11 rows = 5" (12.5 cm)

Abbreviations:

ch = chain
st(s) = stitch(es)
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
V-stitch (V-st) - (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) into ch 1 of the V-stitch of the prev. row

When you drop yarn with a "live stitch", secure the stitch to prevent unravelling with a stitch marker, safety pin or a small bow knot.

Blanket

The blanket is worked as follows: yarn A and B alternate. Both colors are worked in one direction, then the poncho is turned and both colors are worked in the other direction. After the main part is completed, a border is worked around the blanket in rounds.

All odd rows use yarn A. All even rows use yarn B.
Chain 120.
Row 1: ch 2, V-st in the 4th ch from the hook, skip 2 ch, *V-st, skip 2 ch, repeat from * to the end of the row, end with skip 1, 1 dc, drop yarn A. DON'T TURN.
Row 2: attach the end of yarn B to the chain-2, ch 2, *V-st in every ch-1 space of the V-st, repeat to the end of the row, 1 dc, drop yarn B, TURN
Row 3: pick up yarn A "live" st, ch 4, *V-st in every ch-1 space of the V-st, repeat to the end of the row, 1 dc, drop yarn A. DON'T TURN.
Row 4: pick up yarn B "live" st, ch 4, *V-st in every ch-1 space of the V-st, repeat to the end of the row, 1 dc,  drop yarn B. TURN.

Repeat rows 3-4, working total 33 rows, ending with yarn A row. Don't cut the yarn


Border

With yarn A work 1 round of dc around the blanket, work 3 sc in the same st at the corners.
You need to work multiple of 3 + 2 + 1 corner st dc for each side.

Begin 3 sts to left of corner st.
Round 1: ch 4, 2 dc in first ch of ch-4, skip 2 sts, (*3 dc in next st, skip 2 sts, repeat from * to corner st, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner st, skip 2) repeat in parenthesis for each side, sl st to ch 4.
Round 2: ch 4, 2 dc in first ch of ch-4, *3 dc between next 2 3-dc groups, repeat to corner, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 space of the corner group, repeat from * for each side, sl st to ch 4.
Rounds 3-7: repeat round 2. Tie off.
Rounds 1-3, 5-7: in color A.
Round 4 in color B.
