American Girl Doll Summer Breeze Hat

Free Doll Hat Crochet Pattern

The hat is worked top down, in rounds, without any seams. The brim is shaped with millinery wire.

Materials:
Aunt Lydia's 100% Mercerized Cotton, Size 10, 350 yd/300 m, color - Natural - 1 ball. (shop for this yarn here!)
Millinery (or jewelery) wire 16 gauge - " ( cm).
Pliers

Hook: B (2.25 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 14 dc = 2" (5 cm)

Abbreviations:

ch = chain
st(s) = stitch(es)
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
FPdc = front post double crochet

Hat

Chain 4, join with sl st to make ring.
Rnd 1: ch 2 (counts as sc), 11 sc into the ring, sl st to ch 2.
Rnd 2: ch 2 (counts as dc), 23 dc, sl st to ch 2.
Rnd 3: ch 5 (counts as 1 dc and ch 3), *1 dc, skip 1 st, ch 3, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 5.
Rnd 4: ch 2 (counts as dc), *3 dc in ch 3, 1 dc in 1 dc, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 2.
Rnd 5: ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and ch 2), *1 dc, skip 1 st, ch 2, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 4.
Rnd 6: ch 2 (counts as dc), *2 dc in ch 2, 1 dc in 1 dc, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 2.
Rnd 7: ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and ch 2), *1 dc, skip 1 st, ch 2, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 4.
Rnd 8: ch 2 (counts as dc), *2 dc in ch 2, 1 dc in 1 dc, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 2.
Rnds 9-16: ch 2 (counts as dc), dc to the end of the round, sl st to ch 2.
Rnd 17: ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and ch 2), *1 FPdc, skip 1 st, ch 2, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 4.
Rnd 18: ch 2 (counts as dc), *2 dc in ch 2, 1 dc in 1 FPdc, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 2.
Rnd 19: ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and ch 2), *1 dc, skip 1 st, ch 2, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 4.
Rnd 20: ch 2 (counts as dc), *2 dc in ch 2, skip 1 dc, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 2.
Rnd 21: ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and ch 2), *1 dc, skip 1 st, ch 2, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 4.
Rnd 22: ch 2 (counts as dc), *3 dc in ch 2, skip 1 dc, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 2.
Rnd 23: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc and ch 1), *1 dc, skip 1 st, ch 1, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 3.
Rnd 24: ch 2 (counts as dc), *1 dc in ch 1, 1 dc in 1 dc, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 2.
Rnd 25: ch 1 (counts as 1 sc), work sc to the end of the round crocheting around the millinery wire.

While crocheting around the wire, stop when you get to the last 2 inches (5 cm), adjust the wire. Then the secure the ends of the wire with the pliers, twisting and flattening the ends, and end the round, working sc over the connection. Tie off.

I don't know what I did but mine will fit a toddler way too big for a doll. Her whole head fits into it. lol
Still it's pretty hat.

You have to continue to increase the top of the hat until the circumference of the top is the size you need. Then work straight without increases to the desired height. Then work brim. I hope this helps.

I'd love to make this for my niece. Would it be difficult to adjust this pattern to make one to fit my niece as well (7 year-old)? Any suggestions about where I could find out about upsizing a crochet pattern. I've never done that.
