Caribbean Beaches Crochet Tote Bag

Free Bag Crochet Pattern

Finished size without handles 14 1/2" high and 13" wide

Materials:
Lily (affiliate link) Sugar'n Cream Yarn Solids. Color: Hot Blue. 113g/4oz approx 184 m/200 yds  1 ball
Jo-Ann Sensations (affiliate link) Wave bulky weight yarn 136 yards (124 meters) / 113 grams (3.99 ounces)
color purple lime - 0.5 skein (B).
2 plastic handles.

Hooks: H (5.0 mm) and J (5.5 mm)

Directions:
The bag is crocheted in rounds, starting from the bottom.

Foundation row:
With 5.5 mm hook, ch 25.
 

Continue with 5.0 mm hook
Bottom:
Round 1: ch 1, sc into the 2nd chain from the hook. Sc in the next 24 st., sc 3 in the last st on the chain. Now work along the other side of the foundation chain, sc 25 and sc 2 in the last/first st of the chain. Connect with slip stitch. = 56 sts

Round 2: ch 2 (counts as the first hdc) and hdc in the same st, hdc 25, * 2 hdc in the same st - repeat from * 3 times, hdc 25, *2hdc in the same st - repeat from * 2 times. Connect with slip stitch. = 62 sts

Round 3: ch 2 and hdc in the same st, *2 hdc in the same st - repeat from * 2 times, hdc 23, * 2hdc in the same st. - repeat from * 8 times, hdc 23, *2hdc in the same st. - repeat from * 5 times. Connect with slip stitch. = 78 sts

Round 4: ch2 and hdc in the same st, *hdc, 2 hdc in the same st- repeat from * twice, hdc 25, *2 hdc in the same st, hdc - repeat from * 7 times, hdc 26, *2 hdc in the same st, hdc - repeat from * 4 times. Connect with slip stitch. = 92 sts

Round 5: ch1, 92 back post hdc in the sts of the prev row. Finish the round by connecting with sl. st.



Sides:

Round 1: ch 1, turn and work 92 sc. Finish the round by connecting with sl. st.
Round 2: repeat round 1.
Round 3: ch 2, hdc 91. Finish the round by connecting with sl. st.
Round 4: ch 4, *skip one st below, dc in the next st, ch 1, repeat from * across the round.
Finish the round by connecting with sl. st.

Repeat rounds 2-4 eight more times (9 times in all) or to desired height.
 
Finish with 3 rounds of sc.

 

Finishing:
With the larger hook and the Jo-Ann Sensations (affiliate link) Wave yarn crochet sc around the posts of the dc (4th round). To do this: tie yarn to one of the dc, insert hook through hole, yo, slip yarn through hole. * Insert hook into next hole, yo, slip yarn through hole, slip stitch. Repeat from * all the way around.
Make 2 rounds with decorative yarn in each dc round.

Sew the handles. Insert and sew the lining.
