Round Yoke Summer Sweater

Free Summer Sweater Knitting Pattern

Size: S (M, L, XL)

Materials: Tropical Silk by N.Y. Yarns aran weight yarn (cotton, rayon, acrylic, silk) 81 yards (74 meters) / 50 g -7 (7, 8, 9) balls balls (A)
Peaches & Creme Solids 100% cotton worsted weight yarn 122 yards (111 m) / 78 g (2.5 oz), color Orchid- 1 ball (B)

Needles: circular and dpn #8 (5.00 mm) -

Gauge for stockinette stitch: 15 sts x  24 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm)

Stockinette Stitch
1st row and all odd rows - knit sts
2nd row and all even rows - purl sts

Stockinette Stitch in rounds:
All rows - knit sts

Reversible stockinette stitch
Row 1 and all odd rows: purl
Row 2 and all even rows: purl

Wrap and turn in the short rows:
With yarn in front sl 1 stitch to the right needle
Move yarn between the needles to the back
Slip the stitch back to the left needle
Turn the work and bring yarn back to the right side between the needles



Directions:
The yoke is worked sideways and shaped with short rows. The bodice and the sleeves are worked top down in rounds without seams.

Yoke
Cast on 22 sts using waste yarn and provisional cast on method.
Continue with yarn A.
Row 1: sl 1, knit to the end of the row.
Row 2: sl 1, purl to the end of the row.
Row 3: sl 1, k 15, wrap, turn.
Row 4: p 16
Row 5: sl 1, k 10, wrap, turn,
Row 6: p 11.
Row 7: sl 1, k 5, wrap, turn
Row 8: p 6.
Change to yarn B
Row 9: sl 1, knit to the end of the row
Row 10: sl 1, knit to the end of the row
Row 11: sl 1, purl to the end of the row
Row 12: sl 1, knit to the end of the row.
Repeat rows 1-12 20 (22, 25, 28) times.

Remove the waste yarn and sew the ends of the yoke with Kitchener stitch (grafting).

 

Bodice
With yarn B pick up 140 (155, 175, 196) sts along the outer edge of the yoke, join and continue to work in rounds.
Round 1: knit
Round 2: purl.
Round 3: knit. Increase evenly for 20 (22, 25, 36) sts. = 160 (177, 200, 232) sts
Change to yarn A and continue to work stockinette st in rounds.
Work 16 (20, 24, 28) rounds.

Divide for sleeves
Front 53 (59, 67, 77) sts
Back 49 (56, 63, 73) sts
Each sleeve 29 (31, 35, 41) sts

Transfer back stitches to a separate needle and work 8 rows of stockinette st back and forth.
Knit back sts,  cast on 5 (7, 9, 11) sts with the single cast on, transfer 29 (31, 35, 41) sts of the right sleeve to a length of yarn, knit 53 (59, 67, 77) sts of the front, cast on 5 (7, 9, 11) sts with the single cast on,  transfer 29 (31, 35, 41) sts of the left sleeve to a length of yarn, join and continue to work the bodice in the rounds 112 (129, 148, 172) sts. Place a marker at the beginning of the round.
Work stockinette st for 60 (64, 68, 72) rounds or to desired length.
Work 10 rounds or rib: k 2, p 2. Cast off.

Sleeves

Sleeves are worked in rounds on double pointed needles.

Transfer 29 (31, 35, 41) sts from the yarn to the needles and pick up 13 (15, 17, 19) sts over the underarm sts, place a marker in the beginning of the row.
Work 10 rounds of stockinette stitch.
Work 8 rounds of rib: k 2, p 2.
Cast off.

Finishing
With yarn B pick up 61 (67, 76, 85) sts along the neckline, join and work in rounds.
Round 1: knit
Round 2: purl.
Cast off.
