Autumn Shawl with Ruffle

Free Shawl Knitting Pattern

See pattern for the cowl neck sweater with cables.

 

Size: Width - 66" (168 cm), depth - 35.5" (90 cm).

Materials: 100% Wool Lorna's Laces (affiliate link) Hand-Dyed yarn 200 yds (182 m)/70g - 5 skeins. Color 64 Gold Hill. (A)
100% Wool Nature Spun Sport Weight yarn 184 yd (168 m)/50g - 3 skeins. Color 101 Burnt Sienna. (B)
Needles: 4 (3.5 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Gauge: 20 st x 36 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Patterns:

Seed Stitch
Even number of sts
1: *k1, p1*, repeat from * to *
2: *p1, k1*, repeat from * to *
Repeat rows 1-2.

Wrap and turn in the short rows:
With yarn in front sl 1 stitch to the right needle
Move yarn between the needles to the back
Slip the stitch back to the left needle
Turn the work and bring yarn back to the wrong side between the needles

Directions
Yarn A: cast on 38 sts.
Row 1: sl 1, *k1, p1*, p1
Row 2: sl 1, *p1, k1*, p1.
Row 3: sl 1. *k1, p1*, repeat 3 times, place a stitch marker, M1 (make 1 by working into the strand between two stitches), *k1, p1* to the end of the row, p1.
Row 4: sl 1, *p1, k1*, repeat 15 times, k1, *p1, k1*, p1.
Row 5: sl 1, *k1, p1*, repeat 3 times, k1, M1 at the stitch marker, *k1, p1* to the end of the row, p1.
Row 6: sl 1, *p1, k1*, p1.
Row 7: sl 1, *k1, p1* repeat 4 times, M1 at the stitch marker, *k1, p1* to the end of the row, p1.
Row 8: sl 1, *p1, k1*, repeat 15 times, k1, *p1, k1* to the end of the row, p1.
Row 9: sl1, *k1, p1*, repeat 4 times, k1, M1 at the stitch marker, *k1, p1* repeat 3 times, change to yarn B, *k1, p1* repeat 12 times, p1. Turn

Short Rows Ruffle:
All the short rows worked with yarn B in Seed Stitch (see pattern description above)
Short row 1 (wrong side): sl1, p1, k1, p1, wrap, turn see instructions above) (3 sts).
Short row 2 (right side): p1, k1, p1, p1.
Short row 3: sl1, *p1, k1*, repeat 3 times, wrap, turn (6 sts).
Short row 4: *k1, p1*, repeat 3 times, p1.
Short row 5: sl1, *p1, k1*, repeat 4 times, p1, wrap, turn (9 sts).
Short row 6: *p1, k1*, repeat 4 times, p2.
Short row 7: sl1, *p1, k1*, repeat 6 times, wrap, turn (12 sts).
Short row 8: *k1, p1*, repeat 6 times, p1.
Short row 9: sl1, *p1, k1*, repeat 7 times, p1, wrap, turn (15 sts).
Short row 10: *p1, k1*, repeat 7 times, p2.
Short row 11: sl1, *p1, k1*, repeat 9 times, wrap, turn, (18 sts).
Short row 12: *k1, p1*, repeat 9 times, p1.
Short row 13: sl1, *p1, k1*, repeat 10 times, p1, wrap, turn (21 sts)
Short row 14: *p1, k1*, repeat 10 times, p2.

Row 10: sl1, *p1, k1*, repeat 12 times, change to yarn A, *p1, k1*, repeat to the end of the row, p1.
Rows 11-250: Repeat rows 1-10 24 times, increasing in each odd row for 1 sts at the stitch marker.
Rows 251-270: repeat rows 1-10 without increases.
Rows 271-520: repeat rows 1-10 25 times, decreasing for 1 stitch in each odd row at the stitch marker.
Cast off.

I'm doing this shawl as one color-I knitted the first 9 rows as one color-not sure how I start the ruffle-short row 1 only mentions first 3 sts-what do I do with the remainder sts ?

You have to continue following the pattern, just don't change the yarn.
