Materials: Katia Colibri yarn 204 m (223 yds) / 50 g - 1 skein Peaches & Creme 100% cotton worsted weight yarn color 4 ecru 112 m (122 yds) / 70 g - 2 balls Aunt Lydia's crochet thread Size #10 color ecru - 1 ball. Elann.com Callista DK yarn 119 m (130 yds) / 50 gr - 1 skein. 5 yds of white twisted cord 3/16" wide. two 3/4" wood buttons Needles: 6 (4.0 mm) for the main part of backpack and 2 (2.75 mm) for the pocket OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE Crochet hook G (4.00 mm)
Gauge for stocking stitch using 1 strand of Katia Colibri and 1 strand of Peaches & Creme cotton: 12 st x 18 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)
Gauge for stocking stitch using 1 strand of Katia Colibri and 1 strand of Aunt Lydia's crochet thread: 16 st x 24 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)
Patterns:
Stocking Stitch 1 row and all odd rows - knit sts 2 row and all even rows - purl sts
Two-Sided Stocking Stitch Rib: Cast on even amount of stitches 1 k, slip 1 st with yarn in front Turn, repeat the first row knitting slipped stitches and slipping stitches knitted in the previous row.
Small Cable Rib: Multiple of 4 plus 2 Rows 1 an 3 (wrong side): k2, * p2, k2*, repeat from * to * Row 2: p2, *k2, p2*, rep from * to * >Row 4: p2, *k2tog, but leave sts on the left needle; then insert right-hand needle between the 2 sts just knitted together and knit the 1st stitch again; then slip both sts from the left needle, p2*, rep frpm * to * repeat rows 1-4.
Directions Cast on 62 sts (including edge stitches) with Peaches & Creme. Knit 12 rows of two-sided stocking stitch rib. With 1 strand of Katia Colibri and 1 strand of Peaches & Creme cotton knit 64 cm (25") of stocking stitch. With only Peaches & Creme knit 12 rows of two-sided stocking stitch rib. cast off.
Pocket Cast on 40 sts (including edge stitches) with 1 strand of Katia Colibri and 1 strand of Aunt Lydia's crochet thread. Knit 36 rows of stocking stitch. With Elann.com Callista knit small cable rib for for 12 rows. Cast off.
Finishing: Join the side seams of the backpack up to two-sided rib. Sew on the pocket in the middle of the front. Sew on 2 buttons (see pictures). Crochet 2 loops at the bottom of the backpack (see pictures) Cut the cord in half and thread both lengths into the two-sided rib according to the diagram below.
