The easiest way to enlarge a knitting pattern is to use bigger yarn and/or bigger needles, in this case I would stick with the super bulky weight yarn and go to a 7 mm needle for a size 16 and an 8 mm for size 18, your gauge will be different when using a larger needle, just ensure you get a fabric you like. I have made this in homespun thick and quick yarn with an 8 mm needle and it turned out well both for size and design.

This yarn is a #6 super bulky weight yarn, this designer is a a very good designer that always includes the exact yarn information in all patterns, it's right at the beginning under Materials.
